Dirty Helpin' Hands

Dirty Helpin' Hands

A friend in need is a friend indeed, but actually when you're in need almost any hand that comes as a helping hand can become a friend. This post is not about friendships and such life long relationships though, but about having the eye for detail and always scrambling for reasoning. It's a post about old folks, pandemics and politics.

When it comes to politics I can consider Mahatma Gandhi one of the few true politicians in the world, and don't have too many other examples to match him, 99% of the being just puppets. One puppet though, that has nothing to do with running a town, other than filling his pockets in a corrupt country, is our Mayor. Almost ten years older than me, fake kindness, low voice and a Merc taking his ass to the City Hall everyday.

Today when I got out out of the apartments building I saw a poster on the main entrance door and I had to read it. I first though it was some sort of an update to the emergency state that we all need to find about, but when I actually started reading it, I realized I'm not targeted by it and it was a totally different message but somehow related.

It was addressed to old folks, over 65 years, that might need help during the pandemic and don't have anyone to rely on, as if before they wouldn't need it. The poster was actually announcing elderly people that a group of volunteers, lead by the Mayor and one cop's kid, that broke almost all the laws in town, were the angels on earth during these rough times serving the needy elderly.

To be more precise and leave all the long introductory bullshit aside, the note was stating that if there were any over 65 ladies or gents that would need help with their groceries and other needs, they, the helping angels, will come and help. They would go to the supermarket, buy whatever the old ones need and deliver them for free.

When you get to a certain age you might need some medicines to move on with life on this beautiful planet, and the guys are offering themselves to get to the pharmacy and buy them as well, and they are also offering free affidavit copies just in case the elderly ones will feel the need to ultimately get out and kiss the sun but forced to fill those damn papers.

Last but not least, they have a restaurant, that they're in collaboration with, belonging to the ex-Mayor of the town, and for whoever wishes to order food, from the elderly of course, they can do that and be served at home by the volunteers. I thought restaurants were closed during this time around, but it seems that for the elderly in need any business can be resurrected and become the exception of the rule.

Well that's nice right, so why the bastard blogger sharing with you all these insights uses a sarcastic tone? Because I'm a sarcastic bastard and I've got a sharp eye...or two. We're about three months before elections and what better political advertising you can have than simple free services, during rough times, for the best voters you can get quite easily.

Elderly people usually fall easier for politicians, and especially fake ones, and they're the easiest pray, and so the so called pandemic seems to be the best elections campaign one can have even before the start of the elections season. The man that made our town great again hopes for another four years in the chair, and the sweet angels hope probably to stick around him for the next four years and get some share of the pie.

I don't claim the decision to help elderly people to be a joke, although it might be done when there's no pandemic as well, but I see the plan behind the plan, and I smell wolves dressed in sheep. I was thinking to do pretty much the same for some neighbors of mine, without shooting for the key of the town, and I actually went shopping for one of them last week, but they don't seem to be inclined too much towards asking for help.

I guess getting out for some groceries every two days or so is still an option for the 65+ inhabitants of this town, but the offer printed by the town's official's is on the table and it's hard to resist. Curious to find out how many will use it, how many will count that when the elections day will come, and also if the volunteers will be around when the elections campaign comes, because it will. The virus will be forgotten quite soon I guess, but good deeds will survive many months after, and will turn into lucky points for clever people.
