Late 2017 was my entry time to the world of crypto. After a few failed attempts during late summer and early fall, I finally bought my first crypto in the form of 10 LTC. Got them at $50 each and sold at $55. Didn't want to make too much profit... Soon after I sold them, LTC peaked at $360 and the rest is history.
I was part of the 2017 final stages of the bull market though and as far as I can remember, I had $1,300 invested in crypto during those crazy times. I know it's not much, but had I invested them wisely and could have scored at least a 3x on my investment by the end of the bull cycle. I didn't had a strategy though. Indiscipline kills success more than anything I'd say.
I was jumping from one coin to another like a bee after a can of RedBull and ended up at the end of January with like $130 in useless assets, which was actually 10x less than my initial investment. Who does that in a bull market? A complete moron, I tell you...
I was almost entirely replicating this bad strategy lately, when BTC was warming up to finally break $20,000. I found again about coinmarketcal.com, after quite some time, a website where you can find about all future crypto events, and thought this could be my honey pot. "Buy the rumor, sell the news". Took 7 LTCs out of my wallet, sent them to Binance and bought WAN(Wanchain) worth of $530, that's what my 7 LTC thrown at this bet were worth at that time.
WAN is supposed to get through massive upgrades this month and it should perform on a gods level this month, but it doesn't really do that... yet. I bought it at $0.342 per coin and got out at $0.37 which is basically peanuts money when comparing the price performance some other cryptos such as ETH, XRP, LTC and others have had meanwhile. I actually turned 7 LTCs into 5 with my clever strategy...
Frustrated, I decided to stop this types of trades that I've been doing for a while, some being winning ones while others not, and taking my gambling crypto out of Binance and also got back to my hodling strategy that would have paid way better if I'd stick to it right from the beginning. I haven't bought LTC back with the WAN money, instead I took some BAT out of the market, as my gut feeling tells me BAT is due for a pump and maybe I'll have the chance to recover the lost ground. LTC has already had its mini strong rally and low caps might have their turn.
Worth mentioning also, in the middle of this mini bull run, is that ETH fees have increased a lot, and I've noticed that while moving BAT, I didn't had any ETH in my wallet and needed a bit of it to be able to transfer BAT to it. Hence I had to transfer some from metamask and was amazed to see how high the fees are. I actually paid $2.4 worth of gas fees for $17 worth of ETH, plus the BAT fees...
Now, what has all of this has to do with 2017 and my mistakes made back then? Lack of discipline and FOMO. Yes, that's what I've noticed at myself lately. I feel like whatever I'm currently holding is not promising, that some X coin would make me much more than what my current holdings do, and swinging from one to another actually made me loose money and pay fees for nothing. The recent genius of a tarde cost me well over $200 just to remind me of my past mistakes.
As a conclusion, having a strategy, which I already had, but derailed from it for a while, having in mind the big picture, and holding through those bull market waves will for sure make me much more money than these stupid swings. I remember how I was looking, back in 2018, at the IOTA price performance over one year and was imagining how much money one would have made one by simply buying it at the beginning of 2017 and sell it at the end of the year.
Well, here I am, on almost the exact time frame on the bull cycle, with the bags loaded and making childish mistakes. I guess it's time writing down that memory and use it as a motivation to hold on to my plan. Making money in crypto is not complicated at all, you just need to have a macro view, a plan and be disciplined... and a bit of luck to have chosen the best cryptos out there.
Thanks for attention,
Adrian
