European Starling

European Starling

European Starlings, an invasive species to the United States, were brought to Central Park in 1890 as an effort to introduce to Central Park every bird mentioned in Shakespeare.  They have settled well here, and are credited with destroying crops from time to time.  They have made a good home in North America to this day.  It has never harmed any animal species, but farmers consider them a pest.  Here is a photo of one by Hudson River Park in downtown Manhattan.European Starling

I am a photographer, musician, and a writer, in no particular order. I love my turtle.

Herring Gulls (and other birds)

I took several photos for the Audubon Photography awards. No, I did not win, and it was my first time in the contest anyway. Well, wait till next time. And seeing the photos that did win, I can tell you the winners deserved it. Anyway, Herring Gulls are awesome. People associate New York City with pigeons, but just go to the Hudson River, East River, or Battery Park and you will see a diversity! Since birds are my thing when it comes to photography, I created a special blog just for them.
