*Update: The following only applies to the Android version of the Current Media app. It turns out the iOS version doesn't allow you to earn rewards.
What is Current? Quite simply Current is a music streaming platform that pays you to use it. It offers a wide selection of music "stations" from classical, to hip hop, to j-pop, and many more. In reality every "station" is a playlist of music of a specific genre interspersed with advertisements. By default this playlist plays on a never ending loop, but you can skip or pause songs.

What exactly do you get in return for listening to current? Checking into the app and playing music generates a steady stream of reward points which you can exchange for various rewards once you've accumulated enough of them. These include things like crypto, e-books, wireless earbuds, and other electronics, but my favorite reward is the cash payment made directly to my PayPal account.

Since I started using this app last fall, I've requested and received three cash payouts to my PayPal account. Note that if you request the $20 payout you will only get $19.20 USD. That's kind of annoying, to be honest, but its pretty close and its easy money so I can't complain too much.
Admittedly, reward points accumulate slowly but Current offers multiple ways to speed up the process. One of these is giving you additional reward points if you charge your phone while the Current app is active. What's nice is you will accumulate points by charging your phone while Current is running even if you have muted your phone's media volume or paused the music.

In addition to the features that allow you to accumulate reward points passively, Current offers you several ways to earn points actively. These are 1) filling out surveys, 2) completing app installations and other offers, and 3) watching 30-second ads.

Doing any of these three things temporarily increases the rate at which you accumulate reward points.
