There is competition in the burgeoning space of block chain messaging. It made big news when Zoom purchased Keybase to attain it's security chops. Keybase has a XLM wallet built in, and I found that rather intriguing. Then I started reading here at Publish0x about similar projects and had to check them out. I'm the person that downloads every new app I can find to try it out. So I'm here to share with you some of my findings and experience so far.
I thought it might be helpful to talk about this subject by comparing a couple products that I've been experimenting with, so I'll compare Status with Sylo and Keybase.

I started using Status a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed. The combination of a Web3 browser, wallet, and messenger in one app is very appealing. Everything works very smoothly. I should mention too that I am an Android user, and so this is all in exclusion of IOS. 
The messenger is built with community chat in mind as there are several groups for newcomers, Crypto chat, development etc. The signup is a breeze and does not require a phone or email. You choose from a list ready made names like Hungry Scurrilous Hippo, and you can purchase/rent an ens name in the app for 10SNT. The built in Web3 browser makes exchange quick and easy with the likes of Kyber Swap (one of my favorites). The wallet will work with any ERC 20 token so you can store your BAT there if you like and swap it for SNT. Stickers can also be purchased with SNT, and if you want to create a sticker pack and sell it there you can do that too. 
The app is in version 1.3, and so you will find that some things are still waiting to be added, like notifications and wallet transaction history. I would say it works nicely, and it manages to keep my attention in a way that has me checking in a couple times a day to see what is being discussed. I think Status is going to be successful because it utilizes discussions and private chats, along with the very user friendly wallet that makes transactions a breeze on the exchanges. 

Compare that to another similar messaging app, Sylo. I was initially very excited about Sylo because it offers P2P video chat and calling, as well as the wallet that will accommodate ERC 20 tokens and Bitcoin. Sylo must be a better experience on IOS than on Android, because this one doesn't seem ready for the market place. I found the app because of an ad on Brave, so they are paying for ad space.

I downloaded the app and wasted no time in buying Sylo tokens on Kucoin. I had to transfer ETH to Kucoin and do a token swap, then transfer it to my Sylo app. All that took a while since Kucoin requires you to transfer tokens from the main account to the trading account, and vice versa after you swap. Kind of a pain, but I'm sure that will be short lived as other exchanges will no doubt soon be on offer. I then downloaded the app on my wife's phone and tried to add her as a contact by the QR scanning method. It took most of the day before the connection was made. We never successfully transmitted a message or made a call or video chat. My wife deleted the app as she said it was making her phone freeze. Following that I attempted to transfer tokens out of the wallet back to Kucoin. I had to add some ETH for gas, and it just kept telling me I needed more ETH in my account. I Haven't figured that one out yet.    

Keybase on the other hand is polished. Built with teams in mind, there is no pre-loaded chat like Status. You can add bots like Zoom, add images, file storage, and Stellar wallet. Where as Status is built around privacy and allows for anonymity, Keybase is designed with identity verification in mind. So if you live in HK and want to discuss democracy I would go with Status. 

I'll say again, Status is in version 1.3, and they have much on the docket for development. But so far so good. I think it has the sort appeal that Telegram has, but with a wallet and browser.
