Lazio Take Control of Serie A as Milan Win the Derby and Roma Keep Scoring

Lazio move top of Serie A with 28 points after Matchday Ten. Milan beat Inter 3-1, Roma score five against Udinese and Como

Serie A's tenth round has delivered a major shift at the top of the table. Lazio are now the only team in first place after beating Cagliari 2-1, while Inter suffered a 3-1 defeat against Milan in the Derby della Madonnina. Roma strengthened their position in third with a remarkable 5-2 away victory over Udinese, and Como continued their impressive campaign by remaining fourth.
There were 34 goals across the ten fixtures, with important results at both ends of the standings. Juventus defeated Napoli, Frosinone collected another valuable win, Genoa took three points in Lecce, and the final two matches produced significant victories for Fiorentina and Parma.
After ten games, Lazio have 28 points, Inter have 25, Roma have 24 and Como have 23. Milan are fifth on 21, with Frosinone just behind on 20. The leading group is becoming more clearly defined, but there is still plenty of football ahead.

Lazio's consistency puts them alone at the summit

Lazio's 2-1 victory over Cagliari was arguably the most important result of the weekend from a league-wide perspective.
Gennaro Gattuso's team have now collected nine wins and one draw from their first ten matches. Their total of 28 points gives them a three-point advantage over Inter and makes them the only unbeaten side at the top of the standings alongside Roma.
The numbers are impressive in both directions. Lazio have scored 24 goals and conceded only eight, producing a goal difference of plus 16. That balance has been one of the foundations of their excellent start.
What makes this run particularly interesting is the consistency. Lazio have not depended on one exceptional performance to reach first place. They have repeatedly found ways to win, even when matches have become uncomfortable.
The challenge now is to maintain that level. A leading position creates different expectations, and opponents will increasingly approach games against Lazio with a more cautious and demanding strategy.
For the moment, however, the points are there to support their ambitions. The team have earned the opportunity to lead the championship on their own.

Milan deliver a statement in the Derby della Madonnina

The biggest individual match of the round took place at San Siro, where Milan defeated Inter 3-1.
The home side made an explosive start. Christian Pulisic scored in the fourth minute, and Adrien Rabiot doubled the advantage six minutes later. Inter responded through Alessandro Bastoni in the 22nd minute, but Milan restored their two-goal cushion shortly before half-time.
Diego Moreira produced the defining moment of the evening with a superb free-kick in the 43rd minute.
Moreira was involved in all three Milan goals. He provided the deliveries that led to Pulisic's opener and Rabiot's finish before scoring himself. His performance was one of the outstanding individual displays of Matchday Ten.
Luka Modrić also played an important role in keeping Milan organised, particularly when Inter attempted to increase the pressure after the break.
The result gives Ruben Amorim's team a valuable boost. Milan move to 21 points and remain close enough to the leading clubs to make the next few rounds particularly important.
For Inter, the defeat is a setback rather than a disaster, but the manner of the loss will concern Cristian Chivu. Conceding three first-half goals in a derby exposed problems that the team will need to address.
Inter remain second with 25 points, but Lazio have moved three points clear. The Nerazzurri will need a strong response if they want to prevent the gap from increasing.

Roma's attacking numbers are becoming extraordinary

Roma produced one of the most convincing attacking performances of the round with a 5-2 victory away to Udinese.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side were particularly effective during the first half, scoring four times and establishing a commanding advantage. Udinese attempted to respond after the interval, but the visitors had already created enough distance to control the outcome.
The most remarkable statistic is Roma's overall scoring record. They have now scored 28 goals in their first ten league matches, a historic achievement for the club at this stage of a Serie A season.
Gasperini has highlighted the importance of having several players contributing to the attack. Roma are not relying exclusively on one goalscorer. Different players are creating opportunities, making runs and providing decisive contributions.
That variety is a significant advantage for a team hoping to remain competitive throughout a demanding season.
There was, however, one aspect of the performance that the manager will want to review. After establishing a comfortable lead, Roma lost some defensive concentration and allowed Udinese to score twice.
It did not change the result, but maintaining focus for the entire ninety minutes will become increasingly important against stronger opponents.
Roma remain unbeaten after ten rounds and have 24 points. Their position in third place is therefore supported by both their results and their attacking output.

Como are turning an impressive start into a genuine campaign

Como's 1-0 win over Venezia was not the most spectacular result of the round, but it was another important step in an increasingly impressive season.
Da Cunha converted the decisive penalty, giving the home side three valuable points.
Como now have 23 points from ten matches, with seven victories, two draws and one defeat. They are fourth in the standings, ahead of Milan and only two points behind Roma.
The most encouraging aspect of their campaign is the defensive balance. Eight goals conceded is a particularly strong figure, especially for a side competing with clubs that have considerably more experience at this level.
Their attacking return of 18 goals is also respectable. Como do not need to dominate every match to remain competitive, and the Venezia fixture demonstrated their ability to collect points through efficiency.
It would be premature to make predictions about their final position, but the current evidence suggests that their place near the top is no temporary accident.
The coming weeks will reveal whether they can maintain this level when the schedule becomes more demanding.

Frosinone continue to challenge expectations

Frosinone moved to 20 points after beating Torino 2-0.
Ghedjemis opened the scoring, while Calò added the second in stoppage time. It was a controlled performance that allowed Frosinone to strengthen their position in sixth place.
Their attacking numbers are particularly impressive. With 24 goals scored, they have matched Lazio's total after ten rounds.
The defensive record is less convincing, with 14 goals conceded, but the overall balance remains excellent. Frosinone have shown that they can compete consistently rather than simply producing occasional surprises.
Torino, meanwhile, remain on 13 points and will need to improve if they want to move closer to the European places.

Juventus take three points as Napoli struggle

Juventus secured a 2-0 victory over Napoli, giving their supporters a result that could help restore confidence.
Alajbegovic and Boga found the net, allowing the home side to collect all three points and strengthen their position in seventh place.
The result moves Juventus to 17 points. They remain outside the leading group, but there is enough time to make progress if this performance becomes the starting point of a more consistent run.
Napoli are eighth with 14 points. Their campaign has been less convincing than expected, and the defeat highlights the need for greater efficiency in important matches.
The distance between the clubs near the European places remains manageable, but Napoli cannot afford too many more setbacks.

Bologna and Genoa collect useful victories

Bologna began the round with a 2-1 victory over Monza. It was an important result for a team looking to establish itself in the upper half of the standings.
The Rossoblù now have 14 points and are level with Napoli, although they sit ninth in the official ranking.
Genoa also enjoyed a positive afternoon, winning 2-1 away to Lecce. The result takes them to 13 points and gives them a little more breathing room in the middle of the table.
Lecce remain on nine points and will need to improve their consistency if they want to avoid becoming increasingly involved in the relegation battle.

Fiorentina and Parma deliver important results at the bottom

The final two fixtures produced some of the most significant results for clubs near the lower end of the table.
Fiorentina defeated Sassuolo 4-2 away from home. The match included several changes in momentum, with Laurienté scoring twice for the hosts and the visitors responding through Pellegrino, Njie, Mastantuono and Valdepeñas.
Mastantuono's goal proved particularly important, putting Fiorentina ahead in the second half before Valdepeñas completed the scoring.
The victory takes Fiorentina to eight points, level with Sassuolo. It is a valuable result for a club that needed to stop its negative run.
Sassuolo, on the other hand, have serious defensive concerns. Conceding sixteen goals across four consecutive defeats is a worrying statistic, and the coaching staff will need to find solutions quickly.
Parma produced an even more surprising result in Bergamo, beating Atalanta 3-0.
Giovanni Fabbian opened the scoring in the 41st minute. Davide Zappacosta then turned the ball into his own net early in the second half, before Simone Lontani completed the victory in the 58th minute.
Parma defended with discipline and made excellent use of their opportunities. The victory takes them to eight points and provides an important boost after a difficult period.
Atalanta, meanwhile, are having a disappointing campaign. They remain on 11 points and have dropped to thirteenth place after another difficult performance.

What to watch in the next round

The next Serie A round will take place between 6 and 8 November, with several fixtures capable of influencing the top of the table.
Lazio will face Napoli away from home, while Inter are preparing for a difficult meeting with Como. Roma will host Sassuolo, and Milan will travel to Genoa.
Those games could have a significant impact on the leading positions. Lazio will want to protect their advantage, Inter need to respond after the derby defeat, and Roma have an opportunity to keep applying pressure.
Como will be particularly interesting to watch. Their meeting with Inter represents another opportunity to demonstrate that their position among the leading teams is fully deserved.
Further down, Fiorentina and Parma will be hoping to build on their latest victories, while Atalanta and Sassuolo need to stop their negative runs.
Ten rounds have given Serie A a clear leader, but not a clear favourite for the title. Lazio have the points, Inter have the experience, Roma have the most productive attack, and Como continue to make the top-four race more competitive.
The next few weeks should provide a much clearer indication of which teams can sustain their ambitions.
