For years I collected and sold vinyl records and some cds. About 10 years ago I read article talking about how subjective coin grading was. Well that reminded me of vinyl collecting. I can remember many people selling vinyl records that were totally trashed and they were asking book value or Goldmine Magazine value at the time or UK Record Collector. Condition was very subjective. I recall going to a fair having something for $20.00 when others had it for $8 and people would say to me "you are expensive" I would reply yes I am and I tell them go look at the vinyl of the other dealers and compare the condition. If they were real collectors they would come back and buy the item from me. Telling me the other person record is scratched up.
So after reading that article my wife started giving me her change when she shopped and as a waitress she would bring home her tips in coins and give them to me and I would pull out what I thought were good and return the rest. Then she found a dime she put a side as it was damaged. I studied error coins and that was what I was after. Not the small die cracks or the weak stamps but something much different. So after studying the coin and all I could find about error coins I declared it a unknown error and sold it for $100.00. Then another dime fell into my hands and it was also a major error coin sold it for $80.00. I have sold some lower priced error coins, such a $3.00, 5.00, as well as foreign coins. Most errors occur in the copper as it is softer than the nickel. Still selling vinyl and cd and jukebox strips and that is another reason to move into coins is to get away for the weight and room it takes up for vinyl albums and 45's. So as 2025 I plan to start listing coins as well as vinyl and cds, books and jukebox strips. As much as I understanding the opportunity in crypto I guess I am just a hoarder and digital hoarding is just not something I have confidence in. Though I own 250K in graft and plenty of other coins but physical coins work better for me. So thought I would share a few over the weeks. Though I hardly ever read comments this is one article I will read and respond to any comments if appropriate.
Here are a Couple of pictures of the dime I sold for $100.00. Given to my wife in pocket change at work.
