Gods Unchained - Community Quests are here!

By Patch | Gods Unchained | 7 Nov 2022

Today marked the first day of the community quest event. It looks to be 4 different quests in total. Let's get to the breakdown of what they are and how you can participate.

How to partake in the quests

Al quests will have a similar structure to them, and all of them last for 4 days. And they will take place in between the weekly weekend-ranked tournaments. Each quest will have a different requirement that you need to fulfill in order to be eligible to participate. Let's break down the requirements:

  • You need to play with a deck that matches the set requirement for the active quest.
  • You need to play ranked games in the daily Play & Earn.
  • You get points based on your opponent's starting rank.
  • Ties are broken by the number of earned fragments from the daily Play & Earn.
  • Rewards will be paid weekly to eligible players.

Regarding the prizes, they look to be very nice indeed if you are able to get one of the top spots. Unfortunately, I am not exactly sure what each spot or player will get. This is because I found the information in the tweet to be rather cryptic.

But I am sure someone will be able to decipher what it means. One possibility is the first player will get 20,000 $GODS and the 19 others will get 5,000 $GODS each and places 21 to 40 will share 10,000 $GODS. And it is somewhere here I get all confused and can't make logical sense of it.

What are the quests

As I said, there will be 4 different quests. Each with a vastly different requirement. Let us look at each quest in order. The clarification after the requirements in the ( ) is my interpretation of the requirements. They are not official, but only there to try and help make things clear.

Quest 1: War of Aggression, November 7-11, Requirement: Only Cards that cost 5 Mana or less (all cards in your deck need to be 5 mana or lower in costs. I would skip cards with variable mana costs just to be sure. They probably only look at the base cost of a card and not the cost of when you play it)

Quest 2: Golden Age, November 14-18, Requirement: Cards from Genesis, Trial of the Gods, and Divine Order only (Your deck needs to be made by cards from these three sets only)

Quest 3: Divine Conflict, November 21-25, Requirement: Must contain a Card from Death, Nature or War (you need to play a deck made up of Death, Nature, or War. No neutral cards.)

Quest 4: Stuff of Legends, November 28 to December 2, Requirement: Must contain at least 10 Legendary Cards (any God or cards from or any set you want, as long as the deck has at least 10 legendaries in it)

This should be able to use most agro decks for the first quest. Hopefully, you will see this post before you go ham with whatever deck you usually play with. And allow you to instead use the right type of deck. It should also give you enough time to craft some decks for the other upcoming quests.

My thoughts on the community quests

My initial thoughts were great, this sounds like an awesome idea. Have the community do quests and everyone can get rewarded for actively participating in the community. And then I looked at what it actually was. It was just normal ranked games with a restriction slapped on top of it. It is nothing that has anything to do with the "community".

If I am to interpret the tweet about the prices it is more of a slap in the face of the community. It looks more like they just slapped on a buzzword on top of a normal tournament. And if it is designed to do anything I would argue it is designed to alienate the broad community. This is because it is clearly designed to favor players with a higher rank. Why should a player down in Gold even bother to participate?

I am just baffled by this whole thing. I was not expecting to be this upset. But I clearly am. I was expecting more and better things from the team behind GU. Not this "community thing" or whatever you want to call it.

What are your thoughts on this new "Community Quest" event they have rolled out? Are you looking forward to participating or will you just go about playing as normal?
