Coronavirus shuffled the cards on the German political scene. Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU / CSU government has enjoyed popularity among voters during the epidemic that has not been remembered since the summer of 2017. This was shown by a recent survey for ARD public television.

He said the conservative CDU / CSU would now have 38 percent of the vote, almost 10 percentage points more than the end of March, when 29 percent of citizens were in support. In the long term, the strongest political group would improve significantly in comparison with the September 2017 parliamentary elections, with 32.9 percent of the voters.

The opposite trend is now apparent for the opposition AfD, which was still around 14 percent at the beginning of the year, but is now at nine. According to political scientists, this is due to the fact that the party's proven rhetoric still does not work for coronavirus. While in other cases the AfD may point to a specific adversary or enemy, in a disease that is invisible to the human eye, this is hardly possible.

In addition to the two groupings, the Social Democrats would now be in the Bundestag with 17 percent, the Greens with 19 percent and the Left with 7 percent. Free Democrats (FDPs), with the support of five percent of Germans, are on the threshold of parliamentary entry.

A survey for ARD also showed that measures taken to combat the infection severely or very severely limit the lives of 31 percent of respondents. On the other hand, 69 percent of Germans said the measures were little or even burdened.

The effects of coronavir on holiday plans are also clearly shown. 14 percent of Germans have already canceled their summer holiday due to the contagion, yet another 21 percent prefer not to book it at all. 28 percent of respondents expect to take their leave as planned.
