G7 leaders will discuss joint action against coronavirus

Paris / Washington - G7 leaders will hold a videoconference on a joint action against a global pandemic of a new type of coronavirus on Monday. French president Emmanuel Macron said on Friday, and the agreement was later confirmed by the United States, which is currently chairing the club, Reuters said.

G7 members also include Japan, Germany, Britain, Canada and Italy, the second most affected country after China, where the infection first appeared at the end of last year. Leaders should discuss, among other things, the progress made in the production of the virus vaccine and the measures taken to mitigate the impact on the world economy.

States are taking unprecedented measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Several European countries have partially or completely closed borders for foreigners, while the United States has imposed a ban on traveling to the US for citizens of 26 European countries except Ireland and Britain, without first consulting European leaders. Some of them subsequently strongly criticized the decision.

Over 145,000 people have been infected with the disease worldwide and more than 5400 have died. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Europe a new epicenter of the epidemic on Friday. US President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in the US on the same day due to the contagion.
