If you ever travel around Iceland, there is one waterfall you should not miss: **Seljalandsfoss**. It is one of the country's most famous waterfalls, and after visiting it myself, I quickly understood why.
Seljalandsfoss is located on Iceland's beautiful South Coast, about a two-hour drive from Reykjavík. The waterfall is around 60 meters (197 feet) high, but what makes it truly special is not its size. It is one of the few waterfalls in the world where you can actually walk behind the falling water.
At first, I stood in front of the waterfall like everyone else, taking photos and enjoying the view. But the real adventure started when I followed the narrow path behind it. The sound of the water became much louder, cool mist filled the air, and suddenly I was looking at the Icelandic landscape through a curtain of water. It felt like stepping into another world.
Don't expect to stay dry! Even on a sunny day, the spray from the waterfall will leave you soaked. A waterproof jacket and good hiking shoes are definitely worth bringing.
Another great surprise is that just a few minutes away is **Gljúfrabúi**, a smaller waterfall hidden inside a narrow canyon. Many visitors almost miss it, but I think it is one magical places on Iceland's South Coast, when you have no other tourists arround you. Walking through the rocky entrance and discovering the waterfall inside feels like finding a secret treasure.
My advice is to visit early in the morning or later in the evening. The light is softer, there are fewer people, and you have a much better chance of enjoying this incredible place in peace.
Seljalandsfoss is more than just another beautiful waterfall. It is an experience that lets you get close to nature in a way that few places can. If Iceland is on your travel list, make sure this amazing waterfall is on your itinerary. I promise you won't regret it.
