Windscribe is based in Canada. As you might have heard, Canada is among the “Five Eyes Alliance” with the other four being United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. We’ll be analyzing the technical side of the story, so you can look that one up for more info. Like the previous posts, let’s head to our check list:
- IP Leak: No ✅
- DNS Leak: No ✅ Same location as IP address
- IPv6: Not supported ❌ But the app offers potential leak protection via blocking all IPv6 traffic (PC Client)
- Speed: Medium to Fast
- Locations: USA, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Norway, Romania, Turkey
- Protocols: IKEv2, OpenVPN (TCP & UDP), Wireguard, Stealth, WSTunnel
- Manual Configs: Only Pro plans (OpenVPN, IKEv2, Wireguard)
- Auto Reconnect/Kill-switch: Yes ✅ Split Tunneling supported
- Limitations: 10 GB/month traffic, limited number of servers, no manual configs for the free plan
- Platforms: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, FireTV, Browser Extensions, Routers
How about the number of multi-device Simultaneous VPN connections? It's Unlimited on Windscribe, so that's a plus.
One nice feature that I’ve by far seen only on Windscribe is called “Decoy Traffic”. Also the service offers “R.O.B.E.R.T.”, which as stated in the app is a customizable server-side domain and IP blocking tool; it basically helps by blocking Malware, Ads and Trackers, as well as certain content blocking, as in Clickbait and Pornography.
The pocket version can also import OpenVPN and Wireguard configs, I find it pretty cool as well.
Besides VPN, Windscribe also offers a Custom DNS service called Control D. You won’t regret giving that one a try, if you hear from me.
