In March this year, Ghana handed it's Electrical System to Power Distribution Service (PDS), a consortium led by Meralco an electricity company based in Philippines. This was done by the government amidst a lot of protests from the opposition and some Ghanaians.

PDS was expected to inject over $500 million into the power sector to make electricity more accessible, reliable and efficient. When they assumed control, there was a lot of power outages and when Ghanaians cried out, they blamed it on the opposition who they say hired people to disrupt power distribution in the country just to make the government unpopular.

Trending in Ghana currently is the suspension of the contract between the government of Ghana and the Power Distribution Service by the government on the basis that, there was some fraudulent activities on the side of PDS to get the contract. How does a whole country sit idle for this to happen and they've been in operation for five (5) months.

I am pretty sure that tomorrow morning, we would have government officials making light of the situation and saying that it was a good decision to hand over the power sector to PDS. They will find a way to divide Ghanaians and instead of addressing their incompetence, it will be a battle between the ruling party and the opposition. Africa never getting better.
