Current projections indicate that the next halving of the prize, this time up to 3,125 bitcoin, will occur in 2024. The last halving is not expected until after 2100 - this is due to the increasing level of difficulty in digging up more bitcoins, while rigidly limiting the total virtual currency supply (21 million). Over 18 million bitcoins have already been excavated in the 11-year history to date.
