Solana in Crisis: Why SOL is Crashing and How Low It Can Go

By BFab | Good vibe | 18 Feb 2025

Hey everyone, let’s talk about Solana (SOL) because things are getting intense right now. If you’ve been following the crypto space, you’ve probably seen the headlines—SOL is down 6.5% in the last 24 hours, trading at $178.9, and the FUD is real. But what’s really going on? Let’s break it down.

Solana just lost $772 million in stablecoins (USDT and USDC) in the last week. Meanwhile, Ethereum is sitting pretty with a $1.1 billion increase in stablecoin holdings. This is a big red flag for investor confidence. On March 1, 2025, a whopping 11.2 million SOL tokens (worth $2.06 billion) are set to be unlocked. Everyone’s worried this will flood the market with liquidity, leading to a massive sell-off. Remember LIBRA, the Solana-based memecoin? Yeah, it just wiped out $4.4 billion in investor funds. This has added to the liquidity crunch and made things even messier for SOL.

Despite the chaos, Solana’s ecosystem is still growing. The network just hit a major milestone—one full year without block production failures. That’s huge for a network that’s been criticized for outages in the past. Firedancer, a new validator client, could push Solana’s transaction speed to 1 million TPS. If it delivers, it could be a game-changer. Solana’s DeFi sector is thriving, with TVL hitting $8.6 billion, up 64% last quarter.

Here’s the million-dollar question: how low can SOL go? If SOL breaks below $180, we could see it drop to $150 or even $120. The FTX token unlock and stablecoin outflows are creating serious bearish pressure. But don’t count Solana out just yet—its long-term fundamentals are still strong. Some analysts are predicting SOL could hit $400+ by the end of 2025 if the ecosystem keeps growing.

Keep an eye on these key events: March 1, 2025, when the FTX token unlock happens, potentially leading to a sell-off. From May 19-23, 2025, Solana is hosting a tech conference in NYC, and in December 2025, the Breakpoint conference will take place in Abu Dhabi.

Solana is in a tough spot right now, but it’s not the first time the ecosystem has faced challenges. If you’re holding SOL, buckle up—it might get bumpy in the short term. But if Solana can weather this storm, the long-term potential is still there.

This is no financial advice, as usual.
