Ethereum (ETH) Merge Vs. Bitcoin (BTC) Halving

Ethereum (ETH) Merge Vs. Bitcoin (BTC) Halving

By Bfab | Good vibes | 23 Jul 2022

In Crypto, the prices are mostly influenced by the adoption rate: the more newcomers, the more inflows. Therefore, although comparing ETH merge and BTC halving does not make sense from a technical point of view, it can make sense to assess the impact these Crypto News have on the global audience.

Google Trend allows to assess this impact by comparing ETH merge (in blue) with BTC halving (in red):

Evolution of the interest over the last 12 months (worldwide):

Both terms (ETH Merge & BTC halving) generate a similar interest from the wordlwide audience, with a peak starting to form in July for ETH Merge... However, this ETH merge peak is still far away from the peak of interest for BTC halving seen in May 2020 if we look at the trends over the last 5 years:

The world is divided in two:

  • North America is mostly focused on ETH merge.
  • The rest of the world is focused on BTC halving.

In summary:

Although ETH merge generates interest from North America, BTC halving remains predominant in the rest of the world. As merge date is approaching (expected around Sept. 19), it will generate higher interest. However, once it has happened, the next major topic will be the next BTC halving event, expected to occur around May 4, 2024. Therefore, it could make sense from Sept. to progressively rebalance accounts holdings from ETH to BTC.
