*Worthy. Powerful. Eternal. The God of Thunder has arrived — and he brought his hammer.*

## Going Cosmic

We’ve covered street-level heroes, Marvel’s First Family, and one of the greatest villains ever written. Today we take the elevator all the way up — past the Avengers Tower, past the clouds, past the atmosphere — and land somewhere in Asgard.

Today’s spotlight is on **Thor Odinson**, the God of Thunder, Prince of Asgard, and one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel universe. Let’s go.

-----

## Who Is Thor?

**Thor Odinson** is the son of **Odin**, the All-Father and ruler of Asgard, and **Frigga**, the Queen of Asgard. He is a god — literally — an Asgardian who has walked among the stars for thousands of years. His powers include superhuman strength, near-invulnerability, flight, and the ability to summon and control lightning and storms. He is one of the most powerful physical fighters in all of Marvel, capable of going toe-to-toe with the Hulk, surviving the full force of a neutron star, and battling cosmic-level threats that most heroes couldn’t even stand next to.

But for all his power, Thor’s defining trait is not strength — it’s **worthiness**.

At the center of Thor’s story is **Mjolnir** — the enchanted hammer forged from Uru metal in the heart of a dying star. Odin placed an enchantment on it: *“Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”* Mjolnir is not just a weapon. It is a test. And for most of Thor’s history, only he has been able to lift it.

Thor’s early comic stories followed the classic hero arc — a proud, arrogant warrior prince who needed to learn humility. Odin, frustrated with his son’s recklessness, stripped him of his powers and cast him to Earth in the body of a mortal doctor named Donald Blake. There, stripped of everything, Thor learned what it truly meant to be worthy. When he picked up a gnarled walking stick in a cave and struck it against a rock, it transformed into Mjolnir — and Thor was reborn, humbled and stronger for it.

### The Worthy and the Unworthy

One of the most iconic storylines in Thor’s history came in 2014 when **Nick Fury whispered something in Thor’s ear** — something so devastating that Thor immediately became unworthy of Mjolnir. The hammer fell. And no one — not Thor, not the Hulk, not even Iron Man in his Hulkbuster armor — could lift it.

### Thor in the MCU

**Chris Hemsworth** has portrayed Thor across the MCU since *Thor* (2011), making him one of the franchise’s longest-running characters. His arc across the films — from arrogant prince to humbled hero to broken king to… whatever *Thor: Love and Thunder* was — has been one of the most entertaining character journeys in the entire franchise. **Natalie Portman** returned as Jane Foster in *Love and Thunder* (2022), wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor in live-action for the first time.

## Thor in Marvel Snap — The Full Story

Thor’s card history in Marvel Snap is actually one of the most charming in the game — because he and Mjolnir are **two separate cards** that work together as a pair. It’s a mechanic that perfectly captures the mythology.

### 🃏 The Cards: Thor & Mjolnir

Thor is a Series 3 card that costs 3 energy and has 5 power, with the On Reveal ability: “Shuffle Mjolnir into your deck.”

And Mjolnir? When drawn, it gives Thor +7 Power.

So the combo works like this: you play Thor on turn 3, he shuffles Mjolnir into your remaining deck, and then you hope to draw it before the game ends. When Mjolnir lands in your hand and you play it, Thor — wherever he is on the board — surges from 5 Power to a massive **12 Power**. For a 3-Cost card, that is an extraordinary payoff.

The key is the draw. You need to pull Mjolnir before turn 6, which means deck construction and card draw matter a lot when running Thor. Cards that help you dig through your deck — like **Jane Foster, Mighty Thor** — become incredibly valuable Thor teammates.

### 🔧 The Buff History

In the February 12, 2026 OTA update, Thor was buffed from 3-Cost/4-Power to 3-Cost/5-Power. Second Dinner noted that the Hammers deck — the beloved Marvel Snap strategy built around Thor and Mjolnir — had been long overdue for a boost, and that Thor’s base power needed improving to ensure he didn’t fall too far behind when the deck didn’t fully capitalize on its Hammer triggers.

Then in the March 26, 2026 OTA update, Thor was buffed again as part of a broader push to shift the metagame toward a more midrange state. Thor keeps getting love from Second Dinner — and for good reason. The Hammers archetype is one of the most fun and flavorful strategies in the game, and keeping it competitive is always a good thing.

## How to Play Thor Today

**The Classic Hammers Deck** — The core is simple: Thor + Jane Foster + Mjolnir. Fill the rest of the deck with solid midrange cards and cards that help you draw, like **Elsa Bloodstone**, **Angela**, or **Nick Fury**. The goal is to land the Thor/Jane Foster combo and overwhelm your opponent with raw power on the final turns.

**Thor in Ongoing/Buff Decks** — Thor at 5 base Power is already decent value at 3 Cost. If you can buff him further with cards like **Forge** or **Shuri**, and then pop Mjolnir on top for another +7, you can end up with a 3-Cost card worth 15+ Power. Ridiculous.

**Best Synergy Cards:**

- **Jane Foster, Mighty Thor** — Guarantees the Mjolnir draw. Run her every time.
- **King Eitri** — The dwarf who forged Mjolnir. Draws created cards, which includes Mjolnir as a backup option.
- **Elsa Bloodstone** — Great at digging through the deck to find Mjolnir faster.
- **Beta Ray Bill** — Another worthy wielder who also shuffles Mjolnir into your deck, doubling your chances of drawing it.

-----

## The Verdict

Thor is one of those Marvel Snap cards that just *feels* right. The mechanic — Thor calling Mjolnir to him from across the deck — is exactly how it should work. And the Jane Foster combo isn’t just powerful, it’s *poetic*. Two Thors. Two worthy wielders. One very confused opponent.

After back-to-back buffs in early 2026, the Hammers deck is better than ever — and Thor is sitting comfortably as one of the most satisfying cards to build around in the entire game.

Worthy, indeed. ⚡
