## Who Is Wolverine?

If Spider-Man is the heart of Marvel, then **Wolverine** is the soul — the gruff, gravel-voiced, unbreakable warrior who’s been through more pain than any character in comics history and somehow keeps coming back for more. Which, as you’ll soon see, is very fitting for how he plays in Marvel Snap.

His real name is **James Howlett**, though most people know him simply as **Logan**. Born in the late 1800s in Canada, Logan’s mutant abilities first manifested as a child when bone claws literally burst through his knuckles during a traumatic event — painful, terrifying, and a sign of what was to come. His other key mutation? A **rapid healing factor** that lets him recover from almost any injury, slows his aging dramatically, and has kept him alive for well over a century.

Logan spent decades living through wars, loss, and betrayal. He fought in World War I, World War II, and countless conflicts in between. But the chapter that defines him most is the **Weapon X program** — a secret government experiment that kidnapped Logan, wiped much of his memory, and coated his entire skeleton (including those bone claws) in **Adamantium**, the virtually indestructible metal. They turned him into the ultimate weapon. What they didn’t count on was that he’d eventually break free.

After escaping, Logan eventually found his way to the **X-Men**, where Professor Xavier gave him something he hadn’t had in a long time: a purpose. As Wolverine, he became one of the team’s fiercest fighters, a reluctant mentor, and the guy who always got the job done — no matter how ugly it had to get.

Over the years, Wolverine has been an X-Man, an Avenger, a samurai in Japan, a father figure to Jubilee and later X-23 (his female clone), and one of Marvel’s most beloved solo act heroes. His rivalry with **Sabretooth**, his complicated relationship with **Jean Grey**, and his legendary berserker rage have all become iconic parts of Marvel lore.

On the big screen, **Hugh Jackman** brought Wolverine to life across **17 years** of films in the X-Men franchise, culminating in the emotionally devastating *Logan* (2017) — one of the best superhero films ever made. And yes, he came back for *Deadpool & Wolverine* (2024), because some characters are simply too good to stay gone.

## Wolverine in Marvel Snap — The Full History

Now let’s talk cards. Wolverine’s journey in Marvel Snap is actually a perfect reflection of the character — he started off underwhelming, got experimented on, and came back stronger. Sound familiar?

### 🃏 The Original Card (Launch)

When Marvel Snap launched, Wolverine was a Series 1 card costing 2 energy with 3 power. His ability read: “When Discarded or Destroyed: Regenerate this with +2 Power at a random location.”

The concept was great — a card that fights back when you try to get rid of it. But in practice? The stats were just too weak. 2-Cost, 3-Power is fine, but the +2 Power on regeneration wasn’t enough to make opponents sweat. He’d come back at 5 Power, which is decent, but the randomness of *where* he regenerated made him unreliable, and players just
 didn’t really use him.

### 🔧 The Buff: He Comes Back Harder

According to Second Dinner and their data, nobody was really playing Wolverine in Snap. So to fix that, he was given a buff — now when he gets destroyed and returns, he comes back with +2 Power. This was the change that officially locked in his current core identity: a card that **rewards you for destroying or discarding him**, coming back bigger and harder each time.

This opened up his synergy with discard decks (think **Apocalypse**, **Swarm**, **Hela**) and destroy decks (think **Carnage**, **Venom**, **Deathlok**). Suddenly Wolverine had a home — multiple homes, actually.

## How to Play Wolverine Today

The classic Wolverine fits best in two archetypes:

**Destroy Decks** — Play him alongside cards like **Carnage**, **Venom**, and **Deathlok** that destroy your own cards. Wolverine eats the destruction and regenerates stronger. Pair with **X-23** (who has a similar ability) for extra fun.

**Discard Decks** — Drop him in a deck with **Blade**, **Swarm**, or **Lady Sif** to discard him from your hand. He pops back onto the board with more Power, often in a location you need him.

For **Wolverine, Horseman of War**, look to buff him with cards like **Forge**, **Shogun**, or through his own destroy/discard triggers, then watch him spread Power across your whole board.

## The Verdict

Wolverine’s story in Marvel Snap is pure Logan — overlooked, experimented on, buffed up, and now dangerous. He’s not always the flashiest card in the deck, but he’s tough, reliable, and has the kind of staying power that’ll keep him relevant for a long time.

Much like the man himself. đŸș
