This is meant for the people who write content.
There is a story among my drafts called ‘The Journal of Thoughts’. I’m planning to publish it. Ever.
This journal is a place I created to write just for the sake of writing. No other rules. No structure. No need to edit. No need for perfection.
When I ran out of ideas I go there to just relax and enjoy the process of typing.
When ink and quill was the main writing tool, writers had a piece of paper to try the handwriting or to remove the excess of ink. Painters and artists have a place where they check the intensity of the color. Tilers create a mosaic using the style offcuts that they don’t want to throw away.
I’m convinced that digital writers will benefit from having a draft that we don’t plan to publish.
What are the benefits?
- It provides a safe place for my mind to relax.
- I never feel lost when I have no idea what to write about. I simply ramble about it in my journal of thoughts.
- Because there are no rules I get to experiment and naturally stretch myself into places the status quo blocks the way in.
- Writing there helps me to come up with ideas. Many times I wrote two sentences and left because I came up with a brilliant idea for my next story.
- Some parts do turn into a story. I get to realize that I have more knowledge on some topics than I previously thought.
- It’s so satisfying to see the astronomical number of words. I get the feeling that writing a book is not an impossible task.
- I ramble less in my published stories.
- It helps to identify thinking patterns about writing that repeat.
- It’s secretly improving my writing.
- It’s fun to just read!
If you are a writer, I encourage you to create a draft that will never be published.
Trust me, it’s not a waste of time.
