Lust for results

There is no doubt that the market offers infinite temptations, and that not all of them can be ruled out by an excess of prudence. The uncertainty and volatility of the business environment can open up new market spaces, indicate routes for innovation and highlight segments never served before. Likewise, digital transformation and customer empowerment challenge business models and enable directions that require a reassessment of value propositions, resources, competencies, and sometimes even the mission itself.

In the troubled river of business it is necessary to distinguish between real opportunities and siren songs that can lead to disaster, even more so if the entrepreneur allows himself to be carried away by instinct or passion without following the appropriate steps to evaluate decisions and actions. Fortunately, there are protection mechanisms against harmful temptations.

Confidence is a skill that centers around relaxation. Relaxation encourages mindfulness in the subtle conditions of the environment. As is well known, relaxation also short-circuits the "lust for results" which, in terms of confidence, is equivalent to the tendency to generate fancy solutions. This lust can be more than simply worrying about the results, it can include the involvement of individuals in the functioning of the group, anxiety about what is unfamiliar, forgetting the plans to develop, etc. A skilled confidence-projecting technician can act as an anchor in the group, interpreting anxiety, understanding dynamics, and being quite vocal in having confidence is a basic requirement for effective analysis.

The excessive desire and desire to succeed, exercise power, earn more money or be one step ahead in knowledge, when it violates the values of honesty, transparency and responsibility that every manager must carry as a flag, makes him a slave of passion. It should not be surprising that sometimes a person gets carried away by excess. Recognizing it, evaluating it, and moderating it can offer a stimulating challenge in the managerial experience. Virtue is not simply in not falling into temptations, but in humbly acknowledging weaknesses and fighting to overcome them.
