Today is May
It hasn't rained for days.
I like the sound of water because it is unavoidable.
It seems like it was October
But today is still May.
I like that it's not November:
it is better to be May than birthday cake.
it's better to be May than a bad movie.
I want to dedicate a poem
by Roque Dalton.
I imagine that everything is terrible
but there is momentum.
It doesn't matter that we are in May
and that there are horrible temperatures
that burn the bones,
or smiles that wake up
the desire to live.
It doesn't matter if it's May
every month is the same.
every moment
awaits its own
catastrophe.
I just want to
that smells like rain,

No matter
if it's may in prison
or September in spring.

things again.
Feel the beat of all that
that makes us feel alive,
count the times we've laughed
until I can't breathe.
All that is worth more
