There is an argument in favor of continuing to live as if nothing happened in the midst of this pandemic. An argument that people usually outline feeling that it enunciates an unappealable truth, a mixture of common sense and pseudo-philosophy. Usually they wield the argument with their mouths on the side, like someone who spits in the desert. That argument is as follows: "the virus is installed, you have to learn to live with it, you have to get used to the idea that sooner or later we are all going to have Covid".

More or less that is what they say. That is, they attribute to the Virus a fatality, a destiny, a mythology, in short: a Covid teleology. Teleology: BELIEF THAT THERE ARE NO CAUSES AND EFFECTS BUT THAT THINGS HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY MUST HAPPEN. That is, they remove CONTAGES from the field of the rational, from the scientific, verifiable, causal, objective field and transfer it to the territory of the esoteric: they speak of IN-AVOIDANCE. As if the cause of a contagion was not a scientific question but a matter of witchcraft. There is no teleology, it is not true that it is in-avoidable.

It so happens that what the people of the Middle Ages had understood well enough in the face of the Black Death (1347-1353), the people of the 21st century, the people of social media and craft beers, the people of Saturday parties and Family gatherings, people walking and socializing, still DID NOT understand: contagions are avoided with social distancing, wearing a mask and staying at home as long as possible. What medieval people understood and applied, modern people still do not understand: the Virus is not inevitable, it was not sent by the gods, it is not invulnerable, it is not invincible. It happens that there are people who do not even "believe" in the virus.

There is another very interesting topic: they throw a cloak of religiosity over the virus: belief. These people do not give in to the scientific evidence that, for better or for worse, governs the parameters of human knowledge since the mid-19th century. What these people do when they say "I don't BELIEVE in the virus" is theologize the Covid. As if the Covid was not scientific evidence but a god in whom we can choose to believe or believe ... They do not believe in science, but they believe in their non-belief.

This whole situation generates an extraordinary anguish in those of us who love life, because those of us who love life really want to live. Life is not limited to visiting a family member, getting together to chat ... there will be plenty of time for all that, there will be because the virus is not teleological: the virus is logical, it belongs to the realm of causes and effects .
That battered reason prevail for once, perhaps this time, she, Reason, is, precisely, right.
