The second church we visit in Prague is St. Nicholas Church. This baroque marvel stands out amongst other old buildings as the tallest one. Walking the narrow streets towards it takes me back to another world, where we still live in the age of castles and kings.

The church, surrounded by old town buildings.

We find the memorial of Jan Hus before stepping inside. This man had a huge impact on the history of Europe and religion, sparking the Bohemian Reformation. As a result, the Czech Republic today is one of the least religious societies in Europe. And yet Prague is where we find some of the most beautiful churches of the Christian faith.

Once we step in and look up and around, the amount of details is staggering. The main dome has intricate statues and columns lining it, long with a celestial drama taking place high above.

Some more beautiful details in the ceiling of the church. My neck soon starts to feel sore from all the looking up.

As I look down and around, I notice how there are almost no artificial lights on, only the sun shining through the many windows. With the natural light seeping in around the altar, it creates truly magical scenes that shift and chance every minute as the sun moves even slightly.

I would say what most impressed me are its many statues, created by sculptor František Ignác Platzer. All of them are so well carved and life-like. You can see the human emotion so well in these marble and copper giants.

After examining the dazzling array of amazing works of art, we climb to the second floor.

Looking up.

Being on the second floor, we can also take a closer look at the majestic organ. This baroque organ has over 4,000 pipes up to six metres in length and was played by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1787. Mozart's spectacular masterpiece, Mass in C, was first performed in the church shortly after his visit.
As I leave this miraculous building, I feel deeply impressed and inspired by its beauty. Hope you enjoyed this visit as well! Blessings and warm Holiday wishes to you.
