Beware of "friends" at work!

Talking about this is really a cliché, that thing of "beating the same drum". But it's good to remember... Be very careful with "friends" at work.

Has anyone in history ever gone through this? That can only be a joke, it would be easier to ask who hasn't gone through this!

You know that coworker who always arrives smiling, humming and calls you "brother" because BE CAREFUL! Not everyone who seems like a friend really wants what's best for you. There are people who get close just to take advantage.

I've seen this a lot in the workplace, the person comes in very humbly asking how to do this or that, then you teach them, give them all the support, and when you least expect it they're there sucking up to the boss, if it weren't enough to say they did everything alone, they're also capable of saying they taught you so they could get along with the boss at your expense.

Another common toxic person is the gossiper, who keeps asking you questions about your life, such as your opinions on this or that, and then at lunchtime he explains and distorts the story to the other employees of the company. The next day, you are the focus of the small talk in the corners of the hallways.

These are usually people who disappear when work is pressing, they have to go to the bathroom, get a drink of water, or do something else. It's okay that these things are necessary, but pay attention to when this happens. Whenever the truck arrives to deliver materials or when the obligations and the rush to deliver them end up pressing, you end up taking on the role that was your "friend" who was supposed to be there helping you. Result: two hours of shitting, only coming back after the truck has already left.  He abandons you, but rest assured that when it's time to pay, he wants to be treated the same.

So, my dear reader, if by chance you work in a company with more people in the same sector, notice those who support you in the really difficult times and who don't try to get credit all the time, If your coworker is truly humble and willing to help, he won't just do it in front of the boss, he'll help you whenever you need it even if no one is looking. Note that if he doesn't tell anyone that he's helping you in any way, that's a great sign of a potential friend.
