Being Singaporean, you might think that I dislike sunny weather because it is hot and humid. However, I actually like sunny weather the most. Even though it is scorching, I relish the feel of the sun’s heat on my body - and it makes me more energised to go about my day. I especially love exercising under the hot sun because sweating it out makes me feel rejuvenated afterwards. I learnt that I love sunny weather the most because I lived in Japan, which is a country with four seasons, for two years. During summertime, I would eagerly take short trips to explore the magnificent natural landmarks. Japan also has lots of summer festivals, and nothing beats dancing with the locals to upbeat and infectious tunes! This is why I gravitate towards sunny weather.
I absolutely agree that children are more protected and comfortable compared to when I was growing up. I would like to discuss this from an educational perspective. Due to the prevalence of technology nowadays, children no longer have to seek information for themselves. Everything is organised nicely for them at the click of a button. Back when I was growing up, my friends and I had to consolidate our knowledge by borrowing books from the library, doing assessment books, and checking physical dictionaries. Just today, I was astounded when I did revision with my son, entirely through online sites like KooBits, SLS and Ezhishi. Don’t get me wrong, I love the convenience associated with online learning. On the other hand, I think my son will be less likely to develop a sense of resourcefulness because he has not developed the thinking skills needed to find useful knowledge.
