My son developed an affinity for hippopotamuses, so we intentionally enhanced his learning by engaging his five senses. We not only visited the zoo and borrowed books on hippos from the library, but also encouraged his hippo collection and even made a pool for them. He now has a growing family of hippos in various shapes and sizes! As a former Science teacher, I could feel my chest pump with pride when he informed my wife that hippos cannot swim in water because they are “too heavy” (his exact words). That’s a decent explanation coming from a 4-year-old. Moving forward, I will continue to leverage multiple intelligences to help my son fuel his interest in the animal that has captured his heart and mind!
