Spelling email

Dear Colleagues,

I trust this email finds you well.

Please find attached this term’s spelling list. Allow me the privilege to go through various key points:

1) I have compiled all the Editing for Spelling words that have appeared in the PSLE from 2012 to 2025 on page 18. You will notice that not a single word has been tested twice. The implication of this is that we don’t really have to ensure that our students know how to spell ‘embarrassment’ (because it was tested in 2021). They do, however, have to remember how to spell commonly misspelled words like “disappointed” because it has not been tested before.

2) Having said that, there has been a shift in testing from frequently misspelled words to obscure ones. Case in point: “surpassing” and “taut” came out last year.

3) In response to this latest trend, I have combed various preliminary papers and compiled the Editing for Spelling words on page 19. Along with myriad words from Term 2 Spelling list, this forms the pool of words from which I derived this term’s spelling exercises.

This spelling list should be used in tandem with the Editing for Spelling exercises. So, our students do not need to use their spelling exercise books this term. I also picked up five words from each week and used them to create a mini compre cloze so that students will get to practise changing the word form of various pertinent words. The answers to these passages are shown below:

As a bonus, I have also parked two resources titled Powerful Prepositions and Vivid Vocabulary in the pertinent PD@TTT folder. With the advancement in ChatGPT, it seems that we can create vibrant and error-free infographics instantaneously!
