parenting woes #5

I don’t normally bring work home, but I took childcare leave on Wednesday to take care of my boy who inexplicably developed a raging fever. So I had to do work on Saturday because Spelling Bee finals was next Wednesday and I had 8 teaching periods next Monday. Duty calls, so to speak.

I used to think that it would be impossible to do work with two kids around. But when push comes to shove, I proved to the Universe (and myself) that I could get things done. I just had to pass my boy my iPhone and hold my baby girl with my left arm while typing on the laptop with my right hand. I think parenting has honed me to be more ambidextrous, no kidding.

This poster was subsequently created with my boy sitting on my lap and me trying not to get distracted by his incessant questions. But hell yeah, I did it!

This exercise also made me clearer as to why I don’t understand people who want to FIRE asap and spend more time with their kids. I actually enjoyed coming up with the words, connecting the dots, injecting the uniquely Mr Heng brand of personality etc. I won’t say that I’m a workaholic but I think I really love languages, so doing this actually fulfilled my creative impulses and made me feel that I had tapped into my creative soul. I’m sorry, but parenting just doesn’t do it for me. I think fellow ENFPs will relate to the thrill of putting random things together and having them combust so excitably because only you see things this way.

Though ngl it was a nice feeling to have a small human being sitting snug on my lap. Hopefully the next time he does it, I can savour it more.
