The idea for this article came to my mind when I was asked to share about whether I wished to turn writing into a full-time job by a content creator platform. This got me thinking. I have concrete financial goals, but I live in the moment, go with the flow and write whatever strikes my fancy that day. I should think about setting writing goals so that I can take my writing to the next level.
My fellow writers comment that they spend a week mulling over their writing to pen a long and thorough post because they feel that doing so will reap them more dividends. I don’t disagree with them, but I doubt I am suited for this approach.
Daily writing on Publish0x thus suits my character. On the other hand, while I recognise that I write fairly well, I don’t want to spit out cliched expressions and ways of thinking and come to a plateau. I want my writing to feel fresh and inspired. I want to try out new words and collocations I have come across. I want to feel less like an automated robot and more like a charismatic wordsmith.
With this in mind, I think one of my writing goals is to discipline my mind into churning out articles on different topics on different days. For instance, I could blog about travelling in Japan on weekends while narrating my teaching adventures on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Structure drives behaviour, and I have high hopes that this will give me the motivation to read travel and education articles so that my mind can subconsciously file away some of the juicy phrases I come across and retrieve them when it’s time to write about such a topic. Undoubtedly, my mind gallops fast like a horse, so I am not sure I can tame and train it successfully. But I guess, you never try, you never know, right?
Secondly, I have been wanting to blog twice every day on Publish0x for the longest time. But I stop short of implementing it because of various reasons. For one, a part of me is eager to try out other similar platforms to see if I can get more tips for my work. However, I tried Torum out and got discouraged because I had to earn at least 500 XTM before I could cash them out. This would literally take years for me to qualify for a payout. So, Publish0x is still among the best when it comes to monetising my work. Secondly, the pool of tips is limited, so I don’t know if I’m depriving others of ties if I were to optimise my writing. So, perhaps you can leave a comment to tell me if I’m being too “greedy”.
From my perspective, I think while there are busy days in which I can’t blog twice, challenging myself to write more might just incentivise me to work harder at my writing. It’s like I’m no longer conflicted about whether I should blog once or twice. Being committed to blogging twice daily will free up some headspace for me to source for interesting topics and get cracking at writing. A single-minded obsession, if you may put it.
Good writers often write three points in their articles because that’s apparently how best our mind remembers. I’m going to deviate from this rule of thumb because I want to embark on something that I’m confident about implementing in the long run. As such, I will keep it to two writing goals:
- Write about specific topics on designated days
- Write twice every day
