A long time argument against cryptocurrency has been its involvement in criminal activity. However, 2020 statistics are starting to show an improvement on this.

News reports say that this criminal activity is at 0.34% ($10.0 billion) of the world transaction volume. Although this seems high it is down from 2.1% ($21 billion) in 2019.

Some argue that this is in part due to the increase in transactions overall, but statistics show that this is not the case. Much of this criminal activity has been linked to the darknet markets.

The scams of 2020 were smaller and less effective than ones seen in 2019 and years prior. However, with the pandemic and more individuals working from home, there have been more and more attacks on workers for certain organizations.

Always remember to stay cautious and aware of all services you are using. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
