Recently, I found myself in need of HNT to complete an online purchase for a Helium miner. Despite the popularity of the Helium network, I found it incredibly difficult to access HNT on major exchanges. 

Currently, HNT is not supported on Coinbase or KuCoin. You can purchase HNT on Crypto.com, but you cannot withdraw your funds. Finally, Binance.US is an option, but it is not available in Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, New York, Texas or Vermont. Unfortunately, I live in one of these states and was out of luck. 

Enter SwapSpace.

So how can you buy HNT on SwapSpace?

Step 1: Head over to swapspace.co

Once on the homepage, you can select the currency pair you wish to swap and the desired amount. In this example, I'll be swapping 0.004 BTC for roughly 12 HNT (~$135 USD).

Step 2: Select an exchange service 

I opted for a floating rate with Exolix. 

Step 3: Enter the recipient address

In this example, I provided an HNT address to receive my funds, and a BTC address in case of a refund.

Step 4: Transfer funds 

SwapSpace will provide you with an address to send your funds. Make sure you send the exact amount specified. Once your funds have been received, it can take several minutes to complete the transaction. Personally, it took me around 30 minutes. 

Step 5: You're done

Note that the total amount of HNT received was a bit less than what I was initially quoted. However, this was expected given the floating rate and the amount of time in between the transfer.

Once the transaction was completed on SwapSpace, it still took several minutes before my funds were available on my Helium wallet. 

Overall thoughts

I needed HNT in a hurry and the major exchanges failed me. SwapSpace has some areas to improve on, such as speed, but it gets the job done. If you're ever stuck trading inconvenient pairs, consider using SwapSpace.
