Why new Bitcoin ETFs are not yet a catalyst - Greyscale Trust selling

By I simon | Crytpo_Adventure_by_Ira | 20 Jan 2024

Many people in Greyscale Trust are selling Greyscale now to move to much lower fee Bitcoin ETFs. Greyscale charges a fee of ~ 1.5% as of 1/11/24. The new ETFs fees are more like .25%. Many of these sellers bought Bitcoin near the highs last bull run (50,000 -> 65000). Therefore when they sell, many will wait for at least 30 days before buying ETF so they can claim Loss on Tax return and not run into the Walsh rule. The Walsh rule requires at least 30 days after loss harvesting before you can rebuy else the loss is rolled into new purchase and cannot be claimed. This selling pressure is putting pressure on bitcoin price. Hopefully in 30 days it will lead to more buying pressure.
