It's Hump Day, and what a better TV show to review on Hump Day then the show that was named after Hump Day, Netflix's Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, Gwendolyn Christie, Emma Myers and Riki Lindhome. This TV series follows the daughter of The Addams', Wednesday, as she attends a private school specifically meant for those...stranger children in the world. During the first few episodes, you go through how she ends up in this school and the crazy cast of children that she will be classmates with, including the complete opposite version of her dark, all-black clothing, persona in Myers' character, Enid, who essentially is a rainbow manifested in the body of a teenage girl, who also has a different side of her own, which I won't be diving into here as this is a spoiler free review!

This series has 2 seasons. Season 1 was released in 2022, while Season 2 was split in half (ugh), with the first half being released in August of 2025, then the second half dropped a month later. The first season is great. Ortega is the perfect actress to play Wednesday. It's almost as if she was specifically made for this role and she kills it. The storyline of Season 1 is intriguing and leads to great twists and turns that, maybe you see coming, but the reveals are still very well done.

Here is what I will say to those that were huge fans of The Addams' Family, whether the tv show in the 60's or the original film from the 90s. Do not go into this TV show thinking it will be a blast from the past or anything remotely related to those older shows. With that said, it paves its own path and adds a bit more depth to the Wednesday character. And you know with Tim Burton behind the helm, you will get great effects, deep characters, and also some comedy sprinkled throughout the show as well. The dynamic between Myers and Ortega is fantastic. They are complete opposites in every single way possible yet they become a perfectly solved jigsaw puzzle when on-screen together.

The main writers of this series, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, also teamed up for a multitude of shows and movies which also had their share of serious scenes mixed in with very well timed and well placed humor. Some of my favorite past works of Gough and Millar would be Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan, Spider-Man 2 (the Tobey one) and the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Oh no, I just said it three times. I hope nothing bad happ......
