Lebanon's intention to launch a digital currency next year to restore confidence in the banking sector and move to a cashless system has been announced by the country's Central Bank Governor, Riyad Salameh.
He also urged Lebanese banks to begin restructuring, including a 20% recapitalization.
"Lebanon has no natural resources and we must maintain our gold reserves because it is an asset that could be liquidated in foreign markets if we face an inevitable, fatal crisis," Salameh was quoted as saying by the country's state news agency.
Is bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies a solution so that countries that live somewhat away from the comforts of the western world can enter the game and increase their wealth and change the rules of the world?
At some point the functioning of the world economy that relies on money as debt will burst and then it will be too late for weak economies to cope without experiencing a huge crisis that will bring their population into a state of hunger with uncontrollable consequences as the rulers fall for in power they will put forward the internal contradictions that will arise from as a problem and thus will not risk losing their reins and privileges. The solution must be provided through an economic system that will be built to serve the real needs of the citizens and not the needs of the company to sell. Think a little about how much of our daily or monthly expenses are for our survival and how many are false needs imposed on us by companies. I do not support going back to the 70's but at some point we will have to see the planet work in the economic part and bring balance everywhere so that we can all enjoy modern luxuries without being deprived of the basics by others.
I do not know if this can be done through crypto but it is worthwhile to try to bring in our daily life alternative ways of economic connection with other parts of the world without the need of the labyrinthine way of banks that put obstacles in all our parts.
