My 21-Day Bitcoin Diaries
Today, I decided to embark on a 21-day challenge in which I did something related to Bitcoin every day. I would also record my progress on Stacker News.
Day 1 - I used my sats from my Muun wallet to buy a gift card (my country’s version of UberEats) from Bitrefill. Smooth process. Made me motivated to buy more gift cards in future so that I could unlock my referral code!
Day 2 - Downloaded the Yzer app and consolidated my knowledge of Bitcoin through its fun quizzes. Transferred these sats to my Muun wallet. Found time to write about this experience on my Publish0x blog.
Day 3 - Followed up on a Bitcoiner’s recommendation - btcmap.org - and was stunned to realise that some merchants in my country accepted Bitcoin as payment. Goggled subsequently and learnt the existence of at least 5 restaurants that accept Bitcoin payments. Publicised one of them on a forum that I patronised: TIL that a Japanese restaurant, Maison Ikkoku, accepts payments in BTC!
How’s this for $38 bucks: Wen Lambo, a grilled rack of lamb garnished with crisp, sour onions
Day 4 - Wrote a review about Kucoin on Heyapollo previously and collected 200 sats. Submitted a review about Gemini so as not to break my momentum. Looking forward to using Heyapollo more often to broaden my knowledge of BTC products and services.
Day 5 - Created a discussion post on Stacker News and was surprised to receive 1800+ sats. Never expected for it to garner so much attention. Decided to withdraw 1000 sats to my wallet and spend the rest on zapping others, since I kinda feel rich!
Day 6 - Did some reading up on how I could wean off my dependence on fiat and incorporate habits into my life to use Bitcoin more often. Compiled a list of merchants that accepted BTC payments and even methods on how I could give others sats so that they could experience the Lightning Network first-hand.
Day 7 - Visited litstak.com which awards you one sat for looking at two options and then voting for the content you prefer to stay victorious. Looked at 50 such “death matches” for images created by Midjourney and got 50 sats (the maximum number distributed per day) for my effort.
Day 8 - I love Stacker News because it gives me real-life accounts of how people are living the Bitcoin Standard. So I came across the Xapo debit card here and went to find out more about it. It seems that even though I’m from Singapore, I can apply for it. Very tempted to do so one of these days!
Day 9 - Gathered various suggestions on how parents can raise BTC-proud children. One idea about having BTC stickers all over the place stuck in my mind. Then I had a brainwave. WhatsApp just introduced a feature in which we could leverage AI to create stickers in our chats. Why don’t I create some BTC stickers to naturally assimilate into the Bitcoin Standard?
Day 10 - Downloaded the app called Simple Bitcoin a while ago. Finally finished the Beginner’s Course and received a certificate for my efforts. Was surprised to come across mention of Stacker News - something about how it leverages the Lightning Network as a form of micropayment.
Day 11 - Asked Bitcoiners how they feel about paying children sats to do household chores. Some shared that they distinguish essential chores from others that they would pay someone else to get done. Hence, while essential chores should be done by them to fulfill their obligations as members of one family, children can get sats if they help parents do their work. Getting sats will then be a great way for them to learn about the value of work exchanged for money. I really feel that the discussions with Stackers sharpened my thinking and defined my parenting philosophy more clearly.
Day 12 - Downloaded Club Bitcoin, a game offered by THNDR games. It doesn’t pay out much sats but oh boy, did I have fun reliving my adolescent days and playing Solitaire!
Day 13 - Had some USDT on Kraken. Swapped it for BTC and then transferred the sats to my Muun wallet. First time I made a withdrawal to the Lightning Wallet successfully from a CEX. Feeling good about myself.
Day 14 - October is about to come to an end, so I took advantage of Bitrefill’s promo code (THANKYOU10) to receive 10% of my expended sats in terms of rewards. Happy to benefit from this promo.
Day 15 - Got down to educating myself on Unspent Transaction Outputs. Won’t say that I understand the majority of what I just tried to digest but I think I will just need time for these unfamiliar ideas to be assimilated into my scheme about Bitcoin. Next up, CoinJoin!
Day 16 - Just spent my supermarket voucher bought from Bitrefill today. But lest I become too happy, I learnt that some Bitcoiners avoid Bitrefill like the plague because it accepts shitcoins. Well, time to subject myself to higher standards and check out The Bitcoin Company.
Day 17 - Learnt of the existence of Nostr-based Habla.news, which allows content creators to get paid via the Lightning Network. Set up an account and posted my first article. Hopefully, I would be able to generate some income and move one step faster to living the Bitcoin Standard!
Day 18 - Was about to download the Bitnob app when I found out that the Alby address I created when I downloaded the Alby Browser Extension ([email protected]) enables me to receive sats. I need to promote my Alby address more proactively!
Day 19 - Was thrilled to encounter Zapread and registered an account with it. Though my excitement died down when another patron mentioned that Zapread seems to be inactive these days, I have hopes that having another Bitcoin-focused Avenue would stimulate my brain juices and motivate me to write more.
Day 20 - Signed up with Bitcoin Transcripts Reviews (https://review.btctranscripts.com) to have a shot at editing machine-generated transcripts on Bitcoin. A site that pays me for deepening my knowledge about Bitcoin? Sign me up!
Day 21 - Was skeptical about the whole thing but inputted my Stacker News LN address on https://satogram.xyz anyway. Woah, woke up this morning to see several sats paid to my account - because I allowed myself to receive advertisements. Okay, the idea of having passive income in the form of petty sats is quite interesting!
