Wrote the following account to qualify for #MyTorumDiary. Hoping to accumulate enough XTM to cash it out soon. 🔜 🤣
What made me buy my first Ethereum? In actual fact, the first time I bought ETH was the first time I traded crypto for the first time.
So what gave me the push to buy crypto in the first place? I know Hodlnaut, a Singapore-based crypto lending platform, is now defunct and all, but I gotta thank its social media manager, CT, for ‘headhunting’ me and recruiting me to be an affiliate influencer. Having successfully signed up with Google Adsense, I was blogging diligently on my personal blog. Well, my blog never netted me a lot of money but it captured CT’s attention. He wrote me a nice email about how he resonated with my parenting and personal finance posts and asked if I was keen to promote Hodlnaut.
Because he mentioned that I didn’t have to come up with any initial capital, I thought, why not, right? But how was I to deposit crypto into Hodlnaut? I ingeniously recalled the BAT tokens I had been accumulating in my Uphold wallet for months. So I set time aside, figured out how to convert my BAT to ETH and transferred this ETH to Hodlnaut. I actually wrote about my process here: https://seedly.sg/opinions/how-gen-x-uncle-ventured-into-crypto-with-passive-income/
Why ETH, you might ask? Well, at that time, I didn’t want to be like everyone else and get hold of BTC. I didn’t know anything about crypto and assumed that it was a tough battle to get hold of any BTC. That was why I chose to trade BAT for ETH because the latter was the second best-known crypto and I thought I would be somewhat of a unique individual. Little did I know that ETH was the first crypto most Singaporeans purchased when they ventured into the digital asset space.
Hodlnaut might have gone bust, but I have since fallen in love with ETH and all its functionalities, never mind its expensive gas fees.
