Are faucets a waste of time?

By cryotosensei | CryptoSensei | 7 Oct 2022

There was a time where a Bitcoin faucet gave away 5 Bitcoins for solving a captcha. Of course, such lucrative times are way behind us. Faucets seemed to have suffered a dip in their reputation since then. Most users denounce them, saying that it is a waste of time. But I beg to differ. This essay will explore the ways in which faucets can give a leg up in your crypto game.

Firstly, faucets are easy to incorporate into your daily routine. Ever been stuck in a traffic jam or long queue or meaningless meeting? Before your blood pressure rises and you stew in frustration, you can just turn to your trusted faucet and click on the daily adverts. I’m a bit obsessed, I admit, because I actually collect the sats offered by daily faucets like Cointiply while walking to the subway station. Recently, I undertook a mission to collect sats at work from Coinpayu. This is because I can just leave the ads running in the background most of the time. I regard this as a mini mental break whenever I make a transition between my tasks. So, in a sense, I am getting paid during work to go about my faucet routine.

An argument then arises: why don’t I concentrate 💯 on my job in hopes of getting a promotion and pay raise? Good question. I think getting involved with faucets actually increases my job motivation because I am paying myself first. Sometimes, I am able to make a withdrawal during work, which makes me feel really thrilled. So it is positive energy that spills over to my professional life.

Secondly, faucets provide a source of passive income. I actively shill my referral links everywhere I can, and sometimes, they bear fruit. Though to be upfront with you, I have learnt to couch my expectations. I actually secured 114 referrals for Cointiply but only about 10 people are active users these days. This means that instead of getting 40 cents every day, I get about 10 cents. Still, free money is happy money, so I’m not complaining. Other faucets like Pipeflare pay a bit better. The other day, I received 0.2 ZEC as my monthly referral commission. This meant that I got a windfall of approximately ten bucks! I’m not kidding when I say that this faucet pays better than my saving bank account. Of course, this isn’t to say that I get $10 bucks from Pipeflare every month, so I hesitate to get your hopes up. But well, the thing about faucets is that I never know when they will drop a pleasant surprise on me. ;)

Thirdly, faucets are great when you are first trying out a blockchain and need some coin dust to make transactions. Faucetoshi is one such example. It offers a range of 13 cryptocurrencies you can choose from and allows you to make a withdrawal for as low as one cent. The caveat is that you need to withdraw your crypto to FaucetPay, but do I get discouraged by such technicalities? Nope, I don’t! So I have an account with both faucets as this is my preferred way of getting SOL. Every bit counts!

In conclusion, faucets are not going to make me rich anytime soon, but they do enliven my life. Hence, I feel that they are not a waste of time. Thank you for reading this.
