If you search for Earnathon you will find lots of conflicting information on whether or not it is a scam.
People are right to be cautious of anyone offering free crypto on the internet, especially when they are an unknown entity and they are offering £20 for little more than answering some very basic questions. Doing your own research is an absolute must in Crypto and I encourage everyone to do the same. I will write an article on this matter in the near future.
Some people's concerns stem from the lack of KYC checks on Earnathon, meaning that there is nothing to stop you creating multiple accounts, using a VPN, and referring yourself repeatedly. However, for me this is nonsense, because a quick glance at Earnathon's FAQs shows that KYC is to follow before their token is launched on exchanges, so people engaging in scam referrals will see their earnings disappear.
Another cause of concern expressed, is that Earnathon is Nigerian. Nigeria is a country sadly associated with scams, mostly due to its longstanding association with email propagated advance fee frauds. However, these fears ignore that Nigeria is a thriving and populace nation with millions who engage in legitimate business without turning to scams. There is a danger of dismissing crypto initiatives originating in developing countries straying across the line into racism and western-centric views of economics. We need to recognise that the Crypto uptake is likely to occur in, and deliver most benefit to, developing nations and we can expect to see many crypto start-ups emerging from outside big regulated economies.
Having done some research I have concluded that Earnathon is most likely entirely legitimate. My reasons for this are -
- Partnerships and earning programs with verifiable partners such as Bantu Pay, Xend Finance, Lead Wallet, Celo, Abit Network, and Binance Smartchain.
- Contract is verifiably unique and has undergone successful audit.
- Strong social media presence shows a willingness to be exposed and answer questions.
- Active participation in large physical events, such as CampusBCAT
- Named team, complete with relevant LinkedIN profiles.
$20 for near bugger all may seem a lot, but we must remember that the token is not launched so the market hasn't really found its value yet. It may yet prove to be worth a lot less - or more. In business terms it makes sense to offer such rewards, the platform needs to onboard a high number of users in order to market itself to partners, and a giveaway is the best way to do this. It is also offering a sum consummate with learn to earn platforms such as the ones offered by Coinbase (where you can earn $30) and Coinmarketcap where I have earnt about $20 recently.
