Getting free crypto for reading is fun and so is airdrop hunting. I mean who doesn`t love to get free coins, right? However, be sure to prepare yourself when you go airdrop hunting. Preparing yourself for airdrop hunting means in short: Arm yourself against scammers and Shitcoin attacks. Scammers and Shitcoins never rest!
The Dangers Of Airdrop Hunting
When you go airdrop hunting, you have to face certain dangers. Scams and Shitcoin attacks are an ever-present threat in crypto nowadays. You can hear about it on the news all the time. So in general, you have to be very careful with everything you do in crypto, especially when it comes to airdrops and bounties.
You can arm yourself against scammers and Shitcoin attacks with knowledge. Understanding scams and Shitcoin attacks is the best way of arming yourself against them.
Keep Your Private Keys Safe
One of the main targets that scammers have is your private keys or recovery phrase. This is probably the most important fact that you should always be aware of.
Your recovery phrase is a vital piece of information for any non-custodial wallet user. You use it to regain access to your wallet and to all of your crypto assets. Now as you can imagine, it’s a scammer’s wet dream to get a hold of your private keys.
Always write down your private keys on a piece of paper. Keep it offline and private. Never share this with anyone.
So long as you don’t share your recovery phrase, there is no way that scammers will get access to your beloved cryptocurrencies.
Send Me 1 BTC, I`ll Send Back 2 BTC
Have you ever seen a Twitter post or YouTube video by Ripple XRP or the Litecoin Foundation stating that they are giving away incredible amounts of crypto? Well, this is one of the oldest scams in the crypto space. It`s the "Send me 1 Bitcoin and I will send you back 2 Bitcoin" scam. it sill is a commonly found scam on Social Media Platforms.
These kinds of scams are promoted nearly every day on social platforms like Twitter or Youtube. Fake accounts with thousands of followers are created so that they look real or even worse, real official accounts get hacked like recently on Twitter.
Always keep in mind that there is no possible explanation for you needing to send crypto in order to receive more.
Cryptocurrency transactions are permanent, irreversible, and additionally, the recipient of the transferred crypto is anonymous. This means that it is gone forever and it is most unlikely that you will ever receive something back.
Telegram Airdrop Bots
I love tipping bots in Telegram groups. But honestly, I am not a huge fan of Telegram Airdrop Bots.
TheTelegram Messenger became widely popular in the crypto-space during 2017. Airdrop bots take little knowledge and effort by scammers to build and run. Mostly this happens in addition to groups attempting to appear as an official group. It is very often coupled with fake team member accounts. Many times, these fake admin accounts are watching official channels and direct message active members in an attempt to scam them.
Users who send direct messages are trying to find people who are very inexperienced, desperate for money, or like in the case of romance scammers, the lonely ones.
In the end, you have to pay Ethereum to unlock your earned tokens for withdrawal or your personal information like your email address gets used to send you spam.
In general, I can`t recommend Telegram airdrop bots. It`s dangerous and simply a waste of time. In my opinion, nearly all Telegram airdrop bots are scammy and spammy. It is definitely better not to give your information out to a bot and stay safe.
Are you familiar with the expression "If something looks like it’s too good to be true, then it probably is"?
In short: It is most unlikely that you will receive hundreds of dollars in crypto in just one single airdrop. That is just too good to be true.
Let me give you one example. There is this airdrop with a very simple task. All you have to do is to submit your Ethereum wallet address. You can also submit several Ethreum addresses and by the end of the airdrop, you will receive 32.000 Minereum Tokens, worth more than $300. 🤨
Now you wait for the distribution until you wake up one day and realize that you have 32.000 Minereum in your wallet, worth several hundred dollars. The bad news is that you can not move these tokens. Let`s face it, you have been attacked by Shitcoins.
The trick is that you have to pay a lot of Ethereum to activate these 32.000 Minereum tokens so that they become a self-mining Minereum address.
However, it was just too good to be true.
There are also fortune drops that you receive without doing anything like that frozen Kicktoken airdrop. At the end of January 2020, I looked into my ledger Live accounts and I was really surprised, when I saw, that I have received 888,888 Kicktoken. It was worth $50 and I was happy about free coins without doing anything. One day later, Kickex must have called Bogdanoff or something like that to pump kicktoken to $500 and then again to dump it back to $50.
$500 in Kicktoken without doing anything. Well, it was also too good to be true.
What I have received was a so-called frozen airdrop. The Kickex gang has paid $50.000 worth of transaction fees to perform the frozen drop. They have sent this spam token to one million different addresses. Kickass token has proven to me that not everything in my wallet is actually mine and I can not do with it whatever I want. The Kicktokens from their frozen airdrop and from their affiliate program can only be used to pay fees in their ecosystem. You can`t move them to any other wallet or to any other exchange. Also on Kickex you can not sell them. You can also pay trading fees on Kickex with them.
In the end, there is no guarantee that you really receive what was promised to you. It will happen from time to time that you have participated in an airdrop and fulfilled all the requirements and performed all the task but you don`t get your reward.
It happened to me with Trust Wallet, with Atomic Wallet, and Origin Protocol. From one day to the other the airdrop was suspended and my referral link was inactive. Some projects are just using the argument, that scammers are abusing the airdrop to exclude you and anyone else from the airdrop. In some cases, it is some kind of exit scam.
Well, I can ignore Origin Protocol now and in the future and write some FUD about them in social networks. Now I can also boycott Trust Wallet and Atomic Wallet but this would also mean that I can not enjoy the benefits of these wallets. I also have to point out that I have received AWC and TWT until the airdrop was suspended from one day to the other.
The thing is, if you don`t get your promised tokens, simply move on and don`t support that project anymore in the future.
