On June 2nd, Jihoz, Shade, Cruise, and Jase met for an AMA called Lunacian Lounge 5 to discuss with the community a major change coming to the Axie Infinity ecosystem on June 17th: Terrariums. Terrariums will replace the current Lands mini-game, known as Homeland.

During the podcast, it was mentioned, and it's a general feeling within the Axie community, that Homeland ended up going in a direction that wasn't what was initially envisioned for the future of the game in the Lands. What was meant to be an environment for players' Axies to rest and do some activity ended up becoming a real mess. At the higher levels of Homeland, the mini-game resembled a factory, with many constructions and many things happening at the same time.

Over time, homelands have become the opposite of something fun and simple; they've turned into extra work for players. Land owners end up simply delegating their lands and letting someone else spend minutes or hours taking care of the land plots. That's why, according to them during the AMA, Terrariums is here to change that view, returning to nostalgia and simplicity. The background music, the art style for the Terrariums environment—everything is designed to make the player comfortable and nostalgic.

The idea with Terrariums is to make players who own lands enjoy interacting with the platform and no longer need to delegate, because it will be something simple, with a simple daily login. Initially in V1, the idea, in their own words, is to be a "gamified staking" system. There are no grand promises because the focus is on creating a solid foundation and a sustainable economic loop, and over time they will add more experiences and new features to the Terrariums.

Axie Infinity Terrariums!

What's interesting about Terrariums is that, unlike what players are generally used to in web3 games, where there's a delay before anything happens, it seems the economy of Axie Infinity Terrarium will be integrated from day one.

Speaking of the economy, there will be some changes to the land loop. The amount of AXS distributed will remain the same at 150k monthly, but now it will no longer be AXS but bAXS, which has a conversion fee. Furthermore, the lands will no longer generate rewards in the same way; both XP for Axies and bAXS will be distributed in a TICK format. Each Tick takes one hour, and at the end a snapshot is taken and the rewards are distributed.

The biggest change is that previously rewards were generated passively, but now there's a token called Lumium, which must be used to "activate" land production. By default, each land generates enough Lumium every 5 days to keep it active for 1 day, meaning a 1:5 ratio. Therefore, players won't be able to farm 100% of the time unless they purchase Lumium from the in-game store.

I believe that adding more tokens increases the complexity of the entire system and makes it more difficult for new players. Ultimately, since Lumium can be purchased with bAXS, it's as if bAXS itself is being used instead of Lumium, just adding another layer.

Little is yet known about exactly what the best possible strategy will be, but the reward pools for each type of land have been released. The values are Savannah with 5.1k, Forest 16.2k, Arctic 36.3k, Mystic 44.8k, Genesis 28.2k and Luna's Landing 9.4k. The first observation is that these are the monthly values, but the distributions will be made with each TICK. The second observation is that although some values are close, some land types have a much smaller quantity than others.

Finally, we arrive at the final formula, which will depend on several factors to distribute bAXS. The first is that the land needs to have a high quantity of "Atias Flame," which will be obtained by putting axies to work on the land. The higher the rarity of the axie, the more Atias Flame it tends to have: Normal - 5; Summer - 20; Nightmare 40... In addition to the player needing to analyze which axies to place in the 30 available slots on the land, they will also depend on how much of Atia's Flame the other players together with them contribute in total. The percentage they have of the total will determine how much bAXS they will receive.
