This was a SHOW.
Real Vision Finance hosted a debate between Anthony "Pomp" Pompliano and Mike Green, the latter of which I've never heard of. It wasn't hard to see why. The first sentence that came out of his mouth was, "I've spent my scum life scamming up returns for blue bloods working in a family office." You couldn't have picked a better foil for Pomp, and Pomp gave the guy the thumping he deserved.
Yea, I'm biased. But there is a larger point outside of the pure entertainment value of this shellacking.
The one good point Green was able to conjure up was that the Bitcoin network may be more vulnerable than bitcoin bulls want to admit. But every single one of his points, including this one, was based on his political perspective that the United States is the center of the world and everything — including all major bitcoin activity — is primarily to unseat the US as the economic superpower of the world. Constantly implying that China, Iran, Russia, etc. are evil for daring to exist outside of US hegemony. What a fuckin crock.
News flash, Mikey boy. The US was doing a fine job of unseating itself before bitcoin ever entered the discussion. A lazy populace, increasing international resistance against espionage and a general decoupling of skin tone from ability to lead all contributed to the decline of the US in every important world metric. Bitcoin may be speeding along the process of Western decline, but it certainly isn't the only catalyst. Should bitcoin die tomorrow, the US will still be number 2 behind China in 20 years.
What really struck me was Green's complete incapacity to see that all of his arguments were politically based. It just shows how biased and silly Western arrogance has made its citizens. He kept repeating over and over that people shouldn't look to exit "the system" if they don't like it. Just make a measured complaint and patiently wait for policy change, he says. This is laughable for anyone who isn't, well, him or his immediate social circle.
What really gets Green's goat is that those of us who are enfranchised through bitcoin no longer have to argue any of Green's points with him. We can build towards our own sovereignty completely outside of the US, and there's nothing he can do about it. If he hasn't sensed this directly, he will very soon once US GDP continues to drop, the US starts to violently hemorrhage intellectual and financial capital, and the quality of life of his client base starts to rapidly decline. This is a guy who built his entire worldview on this notion of, "it doesn't matter if we come to an impasse during a negotiation — the bottom line is that I can have the violent last word whenever I want. So eventually I'll get my way." This is no longer true, and it's killing him inside. It's delicious for me.
I completely accept the responsibility that comes with helping to orchestrate this new world change, if just to see pieces of shit like Mike Green fade into nothing.
Anyway, the debate. There were some fireworks. It's definitely a fun watch. Go Pomp.
