Bitcoin Doesn't Need to Grow

I hate Kevin O'Leary. And the bitcoin Miami conference inviting this sanctimonious piece of shit to host an ESG panel just shows we have a long way to go.

The fucknut idiot basically runs the panel dangling a trillion dollar carrot in front of the other participants, saying "institutions can't invest their $1T unless we solve this ESG problem, guys!"

The correct answer to that would be, "Who gives a fuck? Tell me again why we need your money?"

Of course 95% of people won't get why that is the right answer. Most folks, especially the new ones who want their bags to pump, will say that I'm the one getting in the way of progress. After all, I'm the one who's blocking $1T of new money from coming into the space!

This isn't about ESG. The environmental "issue" is just another excuse for regulators to slice off a piece of the crypto pie. They're only running that play because the national security play didn't work. So don't take this as a missive for or against environmental bitcoin. Honestly, that issue is tangential at best.

No, the real issue is that the most vocal personalities in crypto are still biting at the carrot of fiat money. Bitcoin doesn't need to grow.

There are many ways to describe bitcoin, but one of the most poignant is as a stable store of value. Because we've all been raised in an inflationary system, we all believe that asset values have to increase in order to be worth anything. That's also the basis of the silly argument against bitcoin as a pristine asset — "well, it doesn't produce any yield, so it's no good!" Ok, I mean defi, but whatever.

Defi is a stage one answer to that question, but an even better answer is that bitcoin moves completely against the notion of inflation being necessary to life. In an ideal world, hard money stays the same and assets actually decrease in nominal value as technology reduces the cost of production and distribution. Imagine a world where you're happy if your house decreases in nominal value each year. You actually live in that world, because unless you're making improvements to your house every year, it's depreciating. There are also newer houses being built with newer features. Housing prices should resemble automobile prices, but they don't because they are artificially increased to uphold the inflationary system. No different from wash selling NFT art to pump the price until a sucker buys.

However, when you have money with a fixed supply and stable policy, you don't need inflation in your assets to increase your real value. If bitcoin stays the same, but housing prices go down each year, then you can get more house each year for your bitcoin. There's no reason to get more bitcoin because the bitcoin you have buys more. In an environment such as this, human beings will refocus themselves away from money to gather the true asset of life — time.

Of course we know the world is not ideal, and the greater economy outside of bitcoin is inflationary. Bitcoin still thrives in this environment, because devalued dollars naturally flow towards the hardest assets. But with the Fed messing with the numbers and O'Leary marketing the bullshit to the public, the true nature of bitcoin's power is more difficult to see.

But the bottom line is that we don't need duh institution's $1T. Bitcoin doesn't need marketing. It doesn't have to get to a certain price point by a certain date. It is at the center of a system that is just better, and there's nothing that anyone can do about it. Money will naturally flow there, and the smartest people will be able to take advantage of a deflationary asset in an inflationary environment. The time gain here, and I can personally attest to this, is exponential. The money issue is becoming secondary in my mind now. The real value is that I have more time than ever.

If you saw that abomination of an interview with Floyd Mayweather, then you see the cringiest example ever of someone who's caught in the fiat world. Sad, because if folks like that actually got what I just explained here, they could leverage their billions into trillions of dollars and man hours and become some of the most powerful people in the world. But Mayweather's taken too many shots to the head, and O'Leary's too caught up with cookers and hoke to do anything except what his hedge fund friends tell him.

But the true value of bitcoin is time, not money. So a trillion dollars should mean nothing to the space as a whole. I mean, if someone gives that to you personally, by all means take it. (Then go buy bitcoin.)

But the bottom line is I don't need my bags to pump tomorrow. Why? I've got time.

And anybody putting forth the message that we're desperate for their money is living in a fantasy land.
