By CryptoHott | CryptoHott | 1 Jan 2024

In some big trouble for Orbit Chain, their bridging service, Orbit Bridge, got hit hard by hackers, losing a whopping $82 million.

Here's the breakdown: The bad actors pulled off five sneaky moves, grabbing $30 million in Tether, $10 million in USD Coin, $21.7 million in Ether, $9.8 million in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), and $10 million in Dai. They cleverly moved these ill-gotten gains to new wallets, making it a hefty payday for the hackers.

Details of the Hack:

  • Five transactions involved:
    • $30 million in Tether
    • $10 million in USD Coin
    • $21.7 million in Ether
    • $9.8 million in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC)
    • $10 million in Dai
  • Funds stealthily transferred to new wallets.

Orbit Chain is closely connected to the Klaytn network, a kind of super-secure blockchain. But this time, it took a hit. Data from Klaytn's block explorer shows that eight of the biggest assets on the Klaytn network got tangled up in this mess, all thanks to the compromised Orbit Bridge.

Let's go back a bit. Orbit Chain, born in South Korea in 2018, is like a high-tech money mover. It helps transfer assets between different blockchain networks smoothly. Imagine it as a bridge connecting different money worlds, like Ethereum and Klaytn.

This breach is a big deal, showing how even these high-tech bridges can have weak spots. It's a wake-up call for everyone in the crypto world to tighten security and keep a close eye on these fancy systems. Now, all eyes are on the investigation to learn more about how this happened and what steps Orbit Chain and its friends are taking to fix things up. Stay tuned for more updates!
