How to Cash Out Your Hard Earned Crypto from Coinbase and Coinbase Pro to Back Account

By Charles Gune | cryptoguru | 11 Oct 2021

Learn how to cash out your hard earned crypto on Coinbase and Coinbase Pro. Here is how you can sell or "cash out" your cryptocurrency.

Coinbase only allows you to sell directly into your Coinbase fiat wallet. However, there is no limit on the amount you can sell to your wallet. After selling to your Coinbase fiat wallet, you can opt to either cash out funds to your US bank account or repurchase cryptocurrency on the platform. After cashing out my Coinbase funds, Coinbase send me an email saying it takes up to 6 business days for the funds to show up on my US bank account.

How to sell Your cryptocurrency on Coinbase

Select Buy / Sell on a web browser or tap on the Coinbase mobile app.
Select Sell.
Select the crypto you want to sell and enter the amount you want to cash out.
Select Preview sell -> Sell now to complete this action.

When cashing out a sell from your fiat wallet to your bank account, a short holding period will be placed before you can cash out the funds from the sell. Despite the hold period, you are still able to sell an unlimited amount of your crypto at the market price you desire.

Available balance on Coinbase

Your available balance is how much you can cash out or transfer immediately out of your Coinbase account. It’s directly related to purchasing crypto or adding cash in local currency using a linked bank account. For security reasons, you will not be able to immediately cash out your local currency using a linked bank account or send crypto purchased with such funds off of Coinbase (we call this “cashout availability”). Wire transfers and debit card purchases do not affect your availability to cash out but are subject to any existing holds on your Coinbase account.

“Funds on Hold”

Funds on hold is the local currency value of your recent cashouts and any crypto purchased with those cashouts. This total amount will always be represented in local currency, regardless of whether you cashed out or purchased crypto. Before confirming a cashout or crypto purchase with such funds, Coinbase will always tell you when those funds or crypto will be available to send off of Coinbase or cash out to your bank. The amount of funds will be calculated based on many factors, which include your account history, payment activity, and transaction history.

“Collateral” on Coinbase

Coinbase uses the term "collateral" to specifically refer to a borrower’s BTC funds, equal to the USD value of the loan at the time of loan origination, that Coinbase ‘locks up’ in order to secure the loan. In the event that a monthly payment is missed, Coinbase will sell off just enough of this BTC collateral to repay the missed payment.

Are wire transfers or debit card purchases subject to availability of my cashout?

Yes. When you complete a purchase or add cash, the transaction is subject to any existing restrictions on the account, regardless of which payment method you used. In general, debit card purchases or wired funds from your bank to your Coinbase USD wallet do not affect your availability to cash out—if no restrictions exist on your account, you can use these methods to purchase crypto to send off of Coinbase immediately.
My cash out availability time frame hasn’t expired and I want my funds immediately, what do I do?

You can still buy, sell, and trade within Coinbase. However, you will need to wait until any existing Coinbase account holds or restrictions have expired before you can cash out with your bank account. Withdrawal-based limit holds typically expire at 4 pm PST on the date listed.

In Summary

I was able to send my Coinbase crypto gains without any fees from Coinbase and Coinbase Pro account to linked US bank account via ACH without any fees. Actual ACH only took few hours. Your experience might be different from mine. I love the fact Coinbase Cash Out is free for linked bank accounts. Never pay fees to cashout your crypto gains.
