Today, I happened to log in to MetaMask (MM) to check my funds in various ERC20s. While I was doing that, a banner advertised the possibility of a MetaMask debit card coming soon.
Spend crypto like cash with a MetaMask Card: Securely and instantly spend your crypto everywhere Mastercard is accepted.
I connected my MM wallet and clicked on the "Login" button, which asked me for a username and password (which I don't have; only a password for MM wallet). Instead, I went back and clicked the "Join the Waitlist" button, entered my email address and country of residence and submitted the form.
The email I got from the MM team states the following:
Thanks for your interest in MetaMask Card!
MetaMask Card is the world's first Mastercard payment card that enables direct spending from your MetaMask wallet.
The MetaMask Card is now available in Brazil, Colombia, EU, Mexico, Switzerland, UK, and US. (Residents of New York and Vermont are excluded from this pilot.)
If you’re eligible, you’ll be redirected to the Crypto Life platform to set up your account and activate your card. If you’re outside the eligible countries, don’t worry—you haven’t been forgotten.
The MetaMask Card pilot is expanding globally in the coming months. We'll let you know as soon as The MetaMask Card is generally available in your region.
Now, I just need to wait for a follow-up email from the MetaMask team, letting me know that the card is available in ZAF. In the mean time, I need to collect my new ID card and possibly renew my passport (which expired a while ago), which I'll likely need for a KYC verification (although hopefully not, since I don't need to provide personally identifying information to use MM). At last, I might be able to spend the trifling amount that I make from blogging here on Pub0x. Wouldn't that be great (assuming I ever make a decent amount of ETH and/or OP)?
In unrelated news, it's been another year since I started using ProtonMail, so the company has given me another gigabyte of storage space. (I now have 20 GB at my disposal.) That's all very well, but I'm only using about 150 MB for storing my emails. Maybe I should invest in a Proton Drive subscription as well, then transfer some of the stuff I've got on Google Drive. The less I have on the latter, the better. Ideally, I'd invest in a 5TB HDD, but I don't have that kind of money just lying around.
