Banano! An off-shoot of the nano cryptocurrency which offers instant transfers and no fees.
In my foray into $Banano cryptocurrency I ended up on their website and found there's a "miner" advertised on their website.

You're given a user ID and Team ID which use in the Folding at Home application.
Then head on over to Folding at Home website to download the application - https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/
They have applications for windows/mac/linux
I've put "miner" in inverted comma's above because although you get rewarded in Banano you're not actually mining for cryptocurrency!
Instead you're helping medical science with your computer as you're helping run calculations about protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics! In short your helping progress medical research.
One you've got the Folding at Home app installed you can control either via the web page controller or the advanced controller.
The web page controller should open up automatically and you'll be prompted for User ID and Team ID which you got from Banano miner.
You can also ask for a passkey via the link which provides bonus points.
This just involves submitting an name and email, receiving that email and entering the passkey into the folding at home application.
Obviously this does effect the performance of your PC! - you can set it to fold only whilst idle or change the power from light, medium and full.
At medium and full power it will make use of your graphics card whereas on low it will only use your CPU.
I've been letting it run on low on and letting it have a blast on my graphic card now and then, this will use more power but will result in more data being processed and more banano to you!
Whether this is cost efficient is another matter but it was fun having a go, helping science and stacking some banano!
