Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at Donald Trump's recent appearance at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville.
Trump at Bitcoin Conference
Former President Donald Trump showed himself as a friend of Bitcoin during his speech at the Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville. During a series of major announcements, Trump noted he will be adding crypto to the government's reserves if elected president, along with a rousing speech to all in attendance. He noted:
“This afternoon, I’m laying out my plan to ensure that the United States will be the crypto capital of the planet and the Bitcoin superpower of the world and we’ll get it done.”
The crowd lapped up the words and gave a rousing roar of approval from the 5,000 in attendance. Trump went on to promise that he will remove Gary Gensler from his position as chair of the SEC, along with a pledge to end the anti-crypto crusade of current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He went on to state:
“We will have regulations, but from now on, the rules will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry.”
A bold statement and one to appease the ever growing frustration within the crypto industry. Trump proclaimed that he will call for a reining in of enforcement activity by US financial regulators, which is likely to cause fear and frustration within the financial industry. He claimed the battles of the crypto industry are similar to his own run-ins with the law, and noted he would end 'repression.'
During his speech Trump also revealed that if he is elected his administration would create a crypto industry presidential advisory council. As part of his promises he noted that the Fed would be forbidden from creating a central bank digital currency (CBDC), and this aligns with Republican activity at the state level to pass laws banning the use of a CBDC on privacy grounds. A Trump presidency would also see the ushering in of a regulatory framework for stablecoins, potentially akin to those recently set in Europe as part of the MiCA regulations.
The former president, who is standing for election in November, went on to state how he intends to create a “strategic national bitcoin stockpile”, which would initially at least be made up of the bitcoin currently held by the Department of Justice, amounting to 210,000 BTC. While no indication was given as to whether or not the government should add to that supply by purchasing more Bitcoin on the open market, Trump did go on to declare that people should “Never sell your bitcoin.”
He noted that one day Bitcoin could likely surpass the market cap of gold. The ‘digital gold’ thesis has long underpinned Bitcoin’s value proposition. Trump's speech outlined the Republican Party's commitment to Bitcoin, and the former president noted he would free Ross Ulbricht, the founder of dark web marketplace Silk Road, if once again elected into office. As reported by an Ohio resident, Chad Kozman, there were “Free Ross/Vote Trump” shirts spotted at the event. He also noted that Trump's words were a sign that the community had matured beyond its individualistic roots into a voting group that had to be reckoned with. He stated:
“For the bitcoin community, it’s been a really hard road to get people to see the benefits of collectivization and pulling together.”
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
