Russia Lack Crypto Regulations

Russia Lack Crypto Regulations

Good day everyone,

I hope you are all well and having an excellent week, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things crypto. In this post I will look at the recent comments by a Russian official regarding the nations inability to create consistent and coherent cryptocurrency regulations.

Russian Policy

There is insufficient Russian crypto legislation which is “undermining the government’s efforts to counter” Western economic sanctions, according to a leading politician of the nation. Andrei Lugovoy, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, noted as much to the media outlet RBC when he noted that Russian crypto policy is 'bad to disgusting.'

Lugovoy stated this at a crypto-related forum organized by the media outlet RBC, and the outlet claimed that “several striking statements and assessments of the current legal state of the mining and digital assets industry in Russia.” From all the comments made, there were arguably no assessments more striking than Lugovoy’s. He berated Moscow’s inaction on the crypto regulation front, noting:

“The lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency sector in Russia plays into the hands of [the West’s] sanctions policy against our country. It is undermining the anti-sanctions policies of the Russian government.”

Lugovoy went on to criticise the various groups working for the government who are charged with creating crypto regulations. Within some of these groups are high-ranking politicians, ministry officials, and Central Bank decision-makers. Moscow had created these groups to break the long-standing impasse between the ministries of finance, trade, and energy and the crypto-sceptic Central Bank.

The ministries of finance, trade, and energy are in favour of legalisation of cryptocurrencies within Russia and wish to make provisions for crypto miners, regulated exchanges, and anti-money laundering protocols. They are of the belief that making the crypto industry legal in Russia would lead to a taxable boost for state coffers. They are also hopeful that making crypto legal would help boost both the tech and financial sectors.

A multitude of large Russian firms are in the process of launching digital assets and NFT trading platforms, but the banking sector remains firmly opposed to crypto within the nation in almost all forms. Instead they wish for lawmakers to focus on fast-tracking the digital ruble project. Lugovoy derided this impasse, and claimed that working groups had now “held billions of meetings.” Despite the meetings the lawmaker noted that politicians have made “no progress in introducing the necessary legislation.”

He also concluded that Russian “businesses have been facing problems making settlements with foreign partners for several years.” He ended by noting that crypto can provide Russian firms with “a way to facilitate these mutual settlements.”

Have a great day.

Peace. CryptoGod-1.
