North Korean Lazarus Group has over $40M Bitcoin

Good day everyone,

I hope you are all well and having excellent day, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things crypto. Today I will be looking at the Lazarus Group from North Korea who reportedly have over $47 million in cryptocurrency holdings.

The North Korean hacking group known as Lazarus Group have reportedly managed to gain over $47 million in cryptocurrency holdings thanks to their hacking techniques, with over $40 million in Bitcoin. A report from the institutional crypto platform, there are 21 wallets connected to Lazarus Group. Within these they contain around 1,600 Bitcoin, with 10,810 Ether and 64,490 Binance Coin. This results in a staggering value of over $75 million within the hacker group’s wallets.

The data compiled from a Dune Analytics dashboard which tracks 295 wallets identified as belonging to the by the Lazarus Group by the US government. While the sums in questions are enormous, the overall value has decreased from the $86 million it held on the 6th of September 2023. This came shortly after the Stake.com hack in which Lazarus was implicated. The crypto casino was hacked on the 4th of September for a value of around $40 million.

It is believed the actual figures held may be much higher, with the figure given an estimated of the lower range based on publicly available information.

“If you have identified or are aware of any other hacks that have been disclosed, please contact us so we can track the assets in this dashboard.”

Another attack by the Lazarus Group saw them exploit the crypto exchange CoinEx for at least $28 million worth of crypto back in September. Other attacks they are reportedly behind are the $620 million stolen from Sky Mavis' Ronin Bridge, along with $100 million from Harmony's Horizon Bridge, and another $100 million from Atomic Wallet.

The US government has noted that around half of the funding for North Korea's missiles comes from cybercrimes and crypto theft, and the White House have confirmed there is an ongoing effort to understand how a nation like North Korea “is so darn creative in this space.”
