NFT Collectible Gifts in Latest Telegram Update
The latest update for the popular messaging app Telegram will bring a message search filter along with a the ability to send or receive digital gifts and even be able to convert them into a non-fungible token (NFT) which can then be auctioned off for higher bids. It is the first update of 2025 for Telegram and will also include an in-app QR code scanner.
Users who receive gifts on Telegram will be also to upgrade them into NFT collectibles which will have special attributes. These NFTs can then be auctioned on non-fungible token marketplaces. As part of the announcement from Telegram it was noted:
“When you upgrade a gift it unlocks a new appearance from dozens of custom variations made by Telegram artists. Collectibles also receive a random set of secondary traits, including a background colour, icon, and number. This means every collectible gift is a unique work of art — and that some will be more rare than others.”
Currently Telegram already features over 20 existing gifts including the Homemade Cake, Jelly Bunny, Spiced Wine and Santa Hat. These are now capable of being converted into NFTs and there are over 1,400 unique appearances. The post promised there will be even more available in the future. When a user sends a gift on Telegram they can now choose to send it already upgraded. However this costs a "a small amount of Telegram Stars, which are used to cover blockchain fees.”
A third-party-led verification system was also introduced by Telegram which will allow public figures and organizations to become verified, so users can quickly identify official sources of information. This verification will be assigned by official third-party services and should help to reduce scams and misinformation being spread. It will have a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms.
There will also be verified chats which will display a small logo before a users name. Their profile will also provide a detailed explanation of their status and what it means. This will differ from the verified checkmarks that Telegram provides for public figures and organizations.
Telegram has also added a built-in QR code scanner which will operate via the app’s camera on Android and iOS. This will enable users to scan codes and open links without leaving the app.
